Are Your 9-Patch Blocks Done Yet?
If you have been faithful to the Quilt-A-Long, you have 30 ninePatch blocks made! Wasn’t it easy? I actually finished 31 blocks and must admit I found it hard to stop with one block. I’ve started my quilt top as well. This is really fast sewing! Take the next month and piece your top. We will have Show & Tell at the shop on Saturday, October 2nd. Be sure to hold the date. If you aren’t in the area, send a picture of your pieced top to
[email protected]. We’ll post your quilt on the website along with pictures from the Show & Tell. Remember, you don’t need to quilt the top, just piece it. Finished quilts are obviously welcome! Watch your emails for sample layouts. They will be in an email soon.

Labor Day Weekend
15% off all novelty fabrics, including Christmas
Do you have plans for this weekend. We will probably have brunch after church on Sunday. Brunch is my all time favorite meal, but there are not many places that serve brunch after noon on Sunday around here. Alas, I end up cooking rather than being served. My house is always full when I say “Cheese Pit”
through Friday September 3rd
Cheese Pit from “Someone’s in the Kitchen with Dinah”
5 slices bread 4 eggs, beaten 1 teasp dry mustard Dash of cayenne pepper
3/4 lb grated sharp cheddar cheese 2 cups milk 1 teaspoon salt Dash of Worcestershire Sauce
I like to add other items, like ham or cooked sausage. Pimento and capers are a good combo as well. This is very forgiving recipe, modify away. Alternate layers of bread, cheese and extra items in a greased casserole dish. Mix remaining ingredients and pour over cheese/bread. Let stand overnight. Bake 1 hour at 350.
Don’t miss out on our upcoming classes Beginning Hand Piecing—the Spool Block will be held on 9/11 Beginning Machine Piecing - Day class starts 9/ 15. Night class starts 9/16 Portable Patchwork Starts 9-17
Cathedral Window Quilt Ann Harper taught the Cathedral Window Quilt a few weeks ago. What a wonderful class. I have a cathedral window quilt that my Grandmother made in 1971. Since I was the oldest grandchild, I got the first quilt! I think that Gram made 3 or 4 quilts before she couldn’t quilt anymore (mine’s the best!). I took Ann’s class as I want a second Cathedral Window— one for each of my guest beds. Naturally Ann had a twist on the Cathedral window. She used homespun as the background for the quilt. Isn’t this the best thing you’ve seen in a while? The back looks like a regular patchwork and the front is a reversed Cathedral Window. Now it looks like I will just have to make two Cathedral Windows one as a companion to my grandmother’s quilt. A second out of homespun!
