From the Bedroom to the Barnyard
A Nine-Block Sampler Honoring Barn Quilts by Kansas City Star Quilts Have you ever traveled a Barn Quilt Trail? I haven’t, but it is on my “To Do Someday” List. I think it would be a fascinating road trip or two or three. This would be more than a race from one destination to another as most of the barn quilts are on back roads. Would you believe that non-fabric quilting extends beyond barns? In Alabama there are free standing murals honoring the Gee’s Bend Quilts (you’ve seen them on US stamps); and northern Indiana features live Quilt Gardens. Check out the Barn Quilt Resources at the back of the book for more information on the Barn Quilt Trails. In “From the Bedroom to the Barnyard”, Kansas City Star Quilts features directions for a quilt made from nine Midwestern Barn Quilts. The quilt features Railroad Crossing, hole in the Barn Door, Double Nine Patch, Variable Star, Wild Goose Chase, Hovering Hawks, Corn and Beans, Star & Four-Patch and a Mosaic Block. Wouldn’t it be fun to travel these quilt trails while making this quilt. What a wonderful memory quilt! Or pick a trail and create your own quilt.
