The event is designed to test riders speed and accuracy of show jumping, combined with the bravery and endurance of cross country, in a friendly atmosphere. The riders will jump a short show jumping round and then go straight out to the XC. The course will be measured for an optimum time, which is slower than a normal cross country, but a bit quicker than for show jumping. The show jumping penalty system is used for all the obstacles (see over for rules), and any ties are decided by the closest to the optimum time. At the conclusion of each class, riders have the option to ride the xc course again, but it won’t be timed or judged. Riders can either ride the same level or the level above (not allowed if they were eliminated in the first round) MPC riders have had extensive use of the course over the last 6 weeks, therefore these riders will be in a separate class. Ribbons to 6th place.
RULES Derby Cross Rail -- 4 points 1st Refusal -- 4 points 2nd Refusal at same fence -- 8 points (Riders can ride on after 2 refusals (they will be eliminated for missed jump but they can attempt the rest of the course) 3rd refusal same fence – Elimination Combinations numbered AB in the show jumping must be jumped under show jumping rules. XC ABs jumped under XC rules (ie only the B element needs to be jumped) If you stop at a show jump fence and it has to be rebuilt, the clock does NOT stop. Fall of Competitor: If non serious the rider may remount, second fall elimination. Fall of Horse -- Elimination 5 Refusals in Whole Course – Elimination Exceeding optimum time (per second) – 1 point Exceeding time limit (double optimum time) -- Elimination The optimum time will be posted at the start and your time with your results. The optimum time is slower than xc time and any ties will be decided by how close riders are to the optimum time. If you are eliminated in the first round, you are not allowed to ride at a higher level.
