MARKET REPORT PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE THURSDAY 20th MARCH 2014 THOUGHT OF THE WEEK Sometimes we are tested. Not to show our weakness, but to discover our strengths. A large yarding of 2527 head came on offer at today's Emerald Cattle Sale. This weeks yarding consisted of mainly young weaner and feeder weight cattle, with quality lines on offer. Once again most values cheapened again this week as buyer confidence and attendance remains very weak. Weaner steers 220-320kgs topped at 168.2c/kg to average 136c/kg and be -7c/kg cheaper than last sale. Weaner heifers 220-300kgs topped at 125.2c/kg to average 101c/kg and -10c/kg cheaper than last sale. All the usual meatworks buyers were in attendance today and values seemed to hold firm on last weeks rates. Prime bullocks over 550kgs topped at 166.2c/kg for some grain assist steers while bullocks in this weight range averaged 150.5c/kg and be firm on last sale. Prime heifers over 400kgs topped at 149.2c/kg for some crop assisted heifers, prime heifers averaged 129.7c/kg to be firm on last sale. A limited yarding of heavy cows over 520kgs topped at 128.2c/kg to average 117.6c/kg and be -3c/kg on last sale. A pen of large framed Brahman Cows & Calves topped at $670/unit. “Highlights” Lloyd & Vickie Stranks “Sunnyvale” The Willows sold Brahman x steers at 145c/kg to average 320kgs and return $465/head. TNT Pastoral Co “Roseanne” Yamala sold Brangus x steers to 140c/kg to weigh 409kgs and return $572/head Alan & Julie Hay “Eka” Jericho, sold a quality draft of Braford & Red Brahman x weaner steers to top the sale at 168.2c/kg for 297kgs and $499/head. The draft averaged 160c/kg for a 266kg average. John & Jan Smith “Birraban” Springsure sold quality Droughtmaster x feeder steers weighing 473kgs to top the heavy feeder steer market at 149.2c/kg and return $707/head. Merv Smith “Sandy Springs” Springsure, sold crop assisted prime heifers to top the sale at 149.2c/kg to average 503kgs and return $751/head. Kim & Carole Lansdowne “Southernwood” Willows sold a large run of Charolais, Brangus x No. 3s with the steer portion making to 161c/kg weighing 312kgs or $503 their sisters sold up to 134c/kg weighing 350kgs or $466. Don & Mary Farquhar “Tallara” Capella sold No. 3 Droughtmaster feeder steers for 151c/kg weighing 364kgs to return $550. Tom & Sylvia Christmas “Gibson Downs” Capella sold Droughtmaster cows for 125c/kg weighing 600kgs for $750. Andrew & Angella Schwarz “Juanita” Fernless sold No 3 Santa steers for 153c/kg weighing 331kgs to realise $508. Bill Ramsay “Bellarine” Emerald sold Charbray No 4 weaner steers for 161.2c/kg to weigh 279.5kgs to return $450.63. His heifers topped at 135c/kg to weigh 432.5kgs and return $583.88. George Edwards sold Droughtmaster Cows 128.2c/kg to weigh 642.5kgs to return $823.69. David & Anne Prince „Melaleuca‟ Capella sold Droughtmaster Bullocks to 166.2c/kg for 627kg returning $1042. Lloyd & Margaret Hanrahan „Palari‟ Comet consigned Brahman Cross Bullocks weighing 635kg making to 162c/kg & $1030. The Bulger Family „Carinyah‟ Willows offered Charolais Cross Steers making to 146.2c/kg weighing 602kg & returning $881.
