A very large yarding of 3900 head came on offer at today’s Emerald Cattle Sale. The yarding consisted of approx 1250 prime cattle and 2650 Feeder & Weaner cattle. A fair panel of restocker buyers were present and competed firmly over most of the store steers while competition over most types of heifers was much weaker. All meatworks buyers were in attendance and with the large offering of prime cattle, rates cheapened as competition was much weaker compared to last sale. Prime bullocks 550-750kgs topped at 175.2c/kg to average 159c/kg, -6c/kg on last sale. Prime heifers over 400kgs topped at 166.2c/kg to average 135.9c/kg, -6 on last sale. Prime cows over 520kgs topped at 145.2c/kg to average 134.2c/kg to be -10c/kg on last sale. Weaner steers 220-320kgs topped at 196.2c/kg to average 162c/kg to be -2c/kg cheaper than last sale. Weaner heifers 220-300kgs topped at 140.2c/kg to average 118.6c/kg and be -11c/kg cheaper than last sale. A pen of Charbray x cows & calves cull for age made to $550/unit.
