Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week Drew Millas, So., C, Missouri State
Missouri State sophomore catcher Drew Millas powered the Bears’ offense to a 2-1 finish at the Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville, N.C., this past weekend, hitting .778 (7-for-9) with a team-leading five RBIs. Millas recorded back-to-back multi-RBI performances and hits in each of his first five at-bats of the weekend, including a career-best 4-for-4 effort in MSU’s 7-4 win over No. 24 ECU—the Bears’ first regular-season victory over a ranked foe in three years. The Belleville, Ill.,native also went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday’s 8-7 win over Pepperdine to help the Bears to the tourney title. Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week Brad Harrison, So., LHP, Southern Illinois
Southern Illinois sophomore left-hander Brad Harrison threw a two-hit shutout at Belmont on Tuesday. Harrison threw seven perfect innings and retired the final 17 Belmont batters of the game. No Belmont hitter reached third base in the game, and Harrison only went to one three-ball count in the game. He threw the completegame shutout in only 92 pitches. Harrison struck out 11 in the win and walked just one. Ten of Harrison’s 11 strikeouts came during his string of 17-straight batters retired to end the game. NOTEWORTHY
In addition to the league’s player and newcomer of the week selections, several conference players had notable performances, and they include:
Andy Shadid (BRAD) – Shadid continued his hot start to
the season and took over as Bradley’s early-season batting average leader by reaching base safely nine times during the weekend sweep at Belmont ... Shadid was 5-for-10 with four walks, a double and a home run in the three games at Belmont ... Having reached base safely in all nine games to start the 2018 season, Shadid is now batting .448, while sporting a .538 on-base percentage.
Jameson Hannah (DBU) –
DBU junior Jameson Hannah hit a team-best .412 (7-for-17) last week and paced the Patriots offense with a .474 on-base percentage in the lead-off spot. Hannah also extended his hit streak to 11 games and has now reached safely in the last 22 games dating back to last season.
Troy Beilsmith (UE) – Sophomore Infielder Troy Beilsmith
continued his red-hot start to the season this weekend against Western Illinois. In three games, Beilsmith went 3-for-6 at the plate, all three hits of the extra base variety. Beilsmith also scored five runs, while picking up an RBI across the weekend as well.
Owen Miller (ILS) – .500 (6-12), 8 runs, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI,
10 TB, .833 slugging %, .625 OB% ... In the opening game of the week (13-10 win over Morehead), went 1-for-3 at the plate with four runs scored, one RBI with a home run ... In the middle game of the series he went 3-for-4 at the plate with four more runs scored and another RBI ... In the finale of the week went 2-for-5 at the plate with an RBI ... The four runs in the first two games are tied for the ninth-highest single-game performance in the country this season .
Clay Dungan (INS) –
Sycamore infielder Clay Dungan finished the weekend with a .400 batting average. The Yorktown, Indiana native set a new career high with a 5-for-6 day at the plate in the Sycamores 11-5 win over Austin Peay Sunday. Dungan, a junior, drove in five runs and scored four while slugging .533 with a.471 on-base percentage. He also finished 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts.
Alex Gray (BRAD) – Gray continued his stellar work out
of the Bradley bullpen by picking up his third consecutive Saturday win for the Braves ... Entering in relief to start the third inning Saturday at Belmont, Gray allowed one run on two hits in his 5.0 innings of relief ... Both hits allowed were singles and he did not allow a walk as Bradley stretched its 4-3 lead to 12-4 during Gray’s stint ... Although he has yet to make a start, Gray is now 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his 14.0 innings of work ... He has allowed only two runs on seven hits, boasting a .146 opponent batting average in his three appearances to date.
Luke Eldred (DBU) – DBU redshirt-freshman Luke Eldred worked six shutout innings and struck out five against Air Force to pick up his second win of the season. Eldred needed just 58 pitches to navigate through the Air Force lineup and did not allow a walk in his six innings of work. Eldred has now gone 15.2 innings to start his career without issuing a base on balls.

a dominant performance in earning his first win of the season. Allinger allowed just one hit over 6 1/3 innings of work, while striking out eight as the Purple Aces shutout Western Illinois 4-0 last Friday.
Brady Huffman (ILS) – Went six innings in the team’s win over Morehead State, picking up the victory ... Gave up five hits and two earned runs, while striking out six batters against Morehead State ... Opponents batted .217 against him during the week.
Ethan Larrison (INS) – Indiana State right-hander Ethan
Larrison recorded a four-inning save Sunday afternoon at Austin Peay. The Shelbyville, Indiana product struck out three and allowed just one run in the outing. Larrison, a senior, now has 12 strikeouts in 14 innings of work for the Sycamores as well as a team-best two saves.
Dylan Coleman (MSU) –
Junior right-hander Dylan Coleman turned in his third consecutive quality start to open the 2018 season Saturday, notching a 7-4 road victory over No. 24 ECU. The Potosi, Mo., product limited No. 24 ECU to three runs on six hits over his 7.0 innings and struck out eight Pirates to hike his league-leading total to 28 punchouts, while also moving past Buddy Baumann into the No. 15 spot on MSU’s career list.
Connor Kopach (SIU) – SIU shortstop Connor Kopach hit
.500 last week for SIU. Kopach went 9-for-18 with a double and four stolen bases. Kopach had a hit in all four games and scored four runs. He ended the week strong, going 7-for-11 (.636) over the final two games of the Louisiana Monroe series, raising his season batting average to .417. Kopach has a hit in 9 of 11 games this season and has reached in 10 of 11.
Blake Billinger (VALPO) – The leading hitter (.444 AVG)
on a Valpo team that ranks 11th nationally in batting average, Billinger went 5-for-10 with five doubles, a home run, 18 total bases, a .900 slugging percentage and seven RBIs this week to help Valpo to two wins over WAC preseason favorite Grand Canyon and a pair of one-run losses to CSUN. Billinger is tied for fifth nationally with seven doubles this season. He had multiple hits in all four games this weekend and has multiple hits in eight of his 10 games in a Valpo uniform. He doubled three times on Friday against CSUN, becoming the first Valpo player with three doubles in a game since 2008.

Preseason All-Americans
Two Missouri Valley Conference baseball players were named to the D1Baseball.com All-American team, as announced by the organization. Missouri State shortstop Jeremy Eierman was a first-team selection, while DBU outfielder Jameson Hannah was a third-team choice. Eierman was also a first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and a second-team selection by the NCBWA. MSU teammate Jake Fromson was also honored by Collegiate Baseball, earning second-team honors.
Award Nominees Galore
The bevy of award watch lists has several MVC student-athletes as nominees for national awards. Missouri State’s Jeremy Eierman is among 55 players on the Golden Spikes Award watch list, which honors the top baseball player in the country. Missouri State’s Jake Fromson and Southern Illinois’ Ryan Netemeyer are listed among 52 student-athletes on the preseason NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award watch list, given to the top relief pitcher.
MVC Finds Success in MLB Draft
A total of 24 MVC players had their names called during the Major League Baseball Player Draft in 2017. Missouri State’s Jake Burger was the top pick for the league with the 11th overall pick by the Chicago White Sox. Missouri State and DBU had six players drafted while Indiana State and Southern Illinois had four players selected. Evansville and Wichita State each had two players chosen. The 24 MVC players chosen is the most for the league since 27 players were taken during the 2007 MLB Draft. Streaking
By sweeping this past weekend’s series at Belmont, Bradley has extended its winning streak to eight games, it’s longest winning streak since a 10-gamer from April 22-May 12, 2007 ... As Bradley has yet to play a home game, all eight games in the streak have been won away from home - five in true road games and three on neutral fields ... Seven of the 10 wins in the 2007 streak were at home ... Bradley had not previously won as many as eight consecutive games away from home, consecutively nor separated by home games, since a 10-game winning streak Feb. 26-March 14, 2005 that consisted of six true road games and four neutral-site games ... In a remarkable scheduling coincidence, Bradley will play its next game Friday at Jacksonville, which ended that 2005 winning streak in the only other previous meeting between the two programs.
Hot Start at the Plate
Through the season’s first nine games, Bradley is batting .331 as a team and the Braves have outhit their opponent (.225 average) in each of the nine games ... Of the 15 batters with a plate appearance through the first three weekends, 10 are batting at least .308 ... While freshman OF Eli Rawlinson is one of the five Braves batting below .308, he is tied for second on the team with seven walks for a .387 on-base percentage and he is second on the team with seven RBI’s.
Bullpen Bullies
Through the season’s first three weeks, eight different pitchers have appeared in relief for the Braves ... Those eight pitchers are a combined 5-0 with four saves and a 2.23 ERA ... Five of the eight relievers have ERA’s below 1.30.

DBU’s win over Oklahoma on Tuesday marked the 10th win over the Sooners in their last 11 meetings. The Patriots’ winning ways over Oklahoma dates back to the 2011 season when DBU knocked off Oklahoma in the Fort Worth Regional.
Eldred on Fire
Redshirt-freshman Luke Eldred is off to an incredible start to his collegiate career. In three starts, Eldred is 2-1 with a team-best 1.15 ERA. In 15.2 innings of work, Eldred has struck out 10, while not allowing a walk. Opponents are also hitting just a mere .132 against the Patriots’ right-hander. The only two runs that Eldred has allowed this year came on a two-run homer by Clemson’s Seth Beer on February 24.
Approaching Milestone
With three wins this week, Patriots’ head coach Dan Heefner is now six wins away from reaching 400 career victories. Heefner, who entered 2018 with the 19th best winning percentage among active NCAA Division I coaches, now owns a record of 394-212 in his 11 seasons at the helm.

University of Evansville earned it’s first sweep of the 2018 campaign this past weekend, taking three straight from Western Illinois University, winning 4-0, 8-0 and 6-3, respectively.
This season Owen Miller has scored 18 runs this season, which is seventh in the country this season. His 2.0 runs per game average is second-best in the country. As a team, the Redbirds rank third in NCAA Division I in scoring, averaging 11.3 runs per game.

INDIANA STATE (6-5) Finally Some Home Action Indiana State will begin their 2018 home slate this weekend after

playing 11 games on the road to open the season. The Sycamores spent opening weekend in Las Vegas before a seven-game road trip through the state of Tennessee. The Sycamores are 6-5 so far this season with as Western Illinois comes to town this weekend for a three-game series. .
Get On and Score Though Luke Fegen has only started five of 11 games for the Sycamores, the junior has
been one of the top run-scorers for the Trees. Fegen has 11 hits in 27 at bats for a team leading .407 batting average. He has reached base 14 times (11 H, 2 BB, HBP) and has scored 10 runs for the Sycamores. Fegen is sporting a .593 slugging percentage with a pair of doubles and a home run to his credit.
The Streak Continues Jarrod Watkins holds the teams longest hitting streak at 11 games. The junior has 19 hits,
including four doubles and a triple for a .388 average. So far this season, Watkins has strung together six multi-hit performances, including a three-hit day at Austin Peay March 3.

As part of their 6-3 start to the season, the Bears locked up their eighthconsecutive .500 or better month of February. Since the start of the 2011 season, Missouri State has gone a combined 43-15 in February, including a cumulative 28-8 mark over the last five seasons. Overall, the Bears ran their February record to 83-63, with a total of 19 winning months out of the 26 years MSU has seen action in February.

Junior right-hander Dylan Coleman picked up his second mound victory of the season Saturday, with a 7.0 solid innings at No. 24 ECU. Coleman, who allowed three runs on six hits and raised his Missouri Valley Conference-leading strikeout total to 28 on the year. He raised his MSU career total to 216 punchouts, passing Buddy Baumann to move into 15th on the program’s all-time strikeout list. Coleman, who fanned an MVC-high 106 batters in 2016, needs five more K’s to match Clay Murphy’s (2010-14) career total in the No. 14 position. Additionally, he is just 10 strikeouts shy of cracking the top 10.
Holding Serve at Hammonds
Missouri State will open its 2018 home slate this week looking to extend a recent home-field advantage of unprecedented proportions in the history of the MSU program. The Bears have logged their top two single-season home win totals over the last two years, going 21-7 at home last spring, following a Hammons Field record 22 victories in 2016. In 2015, MSU posted its best-ever showing at Hammons with a 19-3 (.864) mark, giving the Bears a combined 62-18 (.775) home record over the last three years. Last season, the Bears hit .295 as a team and out-homered the opposition by a 42-20 margin, while posting a 2.96 ERA in their 28 games at Hammons.

SIU sophomore left-hander Brad Harrison threw a two-hit shutout at Belmont on Tuesday. Harrison threw seven perfect innings and retired the final 17 Belmont batters of the game. No Belmont hitter reached third base in the game, and Harrison only went to one three-ball count in the game. He threw the complete-game shutout in only 92 pitches. Harrison struck out 11 in the win and walked just one.Ten of Harrison’s 11 strikeouts came during his string of 17-straight batters retired to end the game.
Run With Us
Last year, SIU stole 100 bases to lead the MVC by more than 40. This year, SIU is on pace to steal even more bases. The Salukis already have 24 stolen bases through only 11 games, and SIU leads the Valley by 10. Southern is on pace to eclipse 125 stolen bases in 2018. Connor Kopach has nine stolen bases, which is as good or better than half the MVC teams as a whole.
Offensive Weekend
Southern Illinois hit .367 in its series against Louisiana Monroe. Eight players hit .300 or better on the weekend. Nikola Vasic went 6-for-11 in the series to lead the way, and Connor Kopach was right behind, going 8-for-15 (.533). As a team, SIU hit more than 100 points better than Louisiana Monroe (.367 compared to .264 for ULM).

Jayden Eggimann made sure his trip to his home state ended on a high note, as the Mesa, Ariz. native slugged a three-run homer to highlight a six-run ninth inning for Valpo on Sunday against Grand Canyon, the team Eggimann played for his freshman season. The prosperous inning snapped a 5-5 tie and helped Valpo to an eventual 11-7 win. Eggimann’s long ball was his first of the season and the third of his Valpo career, and his five RBIs in the game marked a career high. Offense Keeps Surging
It was another noteworthy week for the Valpo offense, as the Crusaders now own a .339 batting average that ranks 11th nationally despite being a cold-weather team that has played nearly all warm-weather opponents thus far this year. Nine players are hitting .294 or better, led by newcomer Blake Billinger, who is hitting .444 with a .733 slugging percentage. Billinger is tied for sixth nationally with seven doubles, three of them coming in one game against CSUN on Friday, allowing him to become the first Crusader since 2008 with three doubles in a contest.

Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week Drew Millas, So., C, Missouri State
Missouri State sophomore catcher Drew Millas powered the Bears’ offense to a 2-1 finish at the Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville, N.C., this past weekend, hitting .778 (7-for-9) with a team-leading five RBIs. Millas recorded back-to-back multi-RBI performances and hits in each of his first five at-bats of the weekend, including a career-best 4-for-4 effort in MSU’s 7-4 win over No. 24 ECU—the Bears’ first regular-season victory over a ranked foe in three years. The Belleville, Ill.,native also went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday’s 8-7 win over Pepperdine to help the Bears to the tourney title. Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week Brad Harrison, So., LHP, Southern Illinois
Southern Illinois sophomore left-hander Brad Harrison threw a two-hit shutout at Belmont on Tuesday. Harrison threw seven perfect innings and retired the final 17 Belmont batters of the game. No Belmont hitter reached third base in the game, and Harrison only went to one three-ball count in the game. He threw the completegame shutout in only 92 pitches. Harrison struck out 11 in the win and walked just one. Ten of Harrison’s 11 strikeouts came during his string of 17-straight batters retired to end the game. In addition to the league’s player and newcomer of the week selections, several conference players had notable performances, and they include:
Andy Shadid (BRAD) – Shadid continued his hot start to
the season and took over as Bradley’s early-season batting average leader by reaching base safely nine times during the weekend sweep at Belmont ... Shadid was 5-for-10 with four walks, a double and a home run in the three games at Belmont ... Having reached base safely in all nine games to start the 2018 season, Shadid is now batting .448, while sporting a .538 on-base percentage.
Jameson Hannah (DBU) –
DBU junior Jameson Hannah hit a team-best .412 (7-for-17) last week and paced the Patriots offense with a .474 on-base percentage in the lead-off spot. Hannah also extended his hit streak to 11 games and has now reached safely in the last 22 games dating back to last season.
Troy Beilsmith (UE) – Sophomore Infielder Troy Beilsmith
continued his red-hot start to the season this weekend against Western Illinois. In three games, Beilsmith went 3-for-6 at the plate, all three hits of the extra base variety. Beilsmith also scored five runs, while picking up an RBI across the weekend as well.
Owen Miller (ILS) – .500 (6-12), 8 runs, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI,
10 TB, .833 slugging %, .625 OB% ... In the opening game of the week (13-10 win over Morehead), went 1-for-3 at the plate with four runs scored, one RBI with a home run ... In the middle game of the series he went 3-for-4 at the plate with four more runs scored and another RBI ... In the finale of the week went 2-for-5 at the plate with an RBI ... The four runs in the first two games are tied for the ninth-highest single-game performance in the country this season .
Clay Dungan (INS) –
Sycamore infielder Clay Dungan finished the weekend with a .400 batting average. The Yorktown, Indiana native set a new career high with a 5-for-6 day at the plate in the Sycamores 11-5 win over Austin Peay Sunday. Dungan, a junior, drove in five runs and scored four while slugging .533 with a.471 on-base percentage. He also finished 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts.
Alex Gray (BRAD) – Gray continued his stellar work out
of the Bradley bullpen by picking up his third consecutive Saturday win for the Braves ... Entering in relief to start the third inning Saturday at Belmont, Gray allowed one run on two hits in his 5.0 innings of relief ... Both hits allowed were singles and he did not allow a walk as Bradley stretched its 4-3 lead to 12-4 during Gray’s stint ... Although he has yet to make a start, Gray is now 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his 14.0 innings of work ... He has allowed only two runs on seven hits, boasting a .146 opponent batting average in his three appearances to date.
Luke Eldred (DBU) – DBU redshirt-freshman Luke Eldred worked six shutout innings and struck out five against Air Force to pick up his second win of the season. Eldred needed just 58 pitches to navigate through the Air Force lineup and did not allow a walk in his six innings of work. Eldred has now gone 15.2 innings to start his career without issuing a base on balls.

Brady Huffman (ILS) – Went six innings in the team’s win over Morehead State, picking up the victory ... Gave up five hits and two earned runs, while striking out six batters against Morehead State ... Opponents batted .217 against him during the week.
Ethan Larrison (INS) – Indiana State right-hander Ethan
Larrison recorded a four-inning save Sunday afternoon at Austin Peay. The Shelbyville, Indiana product struck out three and allowed just one run in the outing. Larrison, a senior, now has 12 strikeouts in 14 innings of work for the Sycamores as well as a team-best two saves.
Dylan Coleman (MSU) –
Junior right-hander Dylan Coleman turned in his third consecutive quality start to open the 2018 season Saturday, notching a 7-4 road victory over No. 24 ECU. The Potosi, Mo., product limited No. 24 ECU to three runs on six hits over his 7.0 innings and struck out eight Pirates to hike his league-leading total to 28 punchouts, while also moving past Buddy Baumann into the No. 15 spot on MSU’s career list.
Connor Kopach (SIU) – SIU shortstop Connor Kopach hit
.500 last week for SIU. Kopach went 9-for-18 with a double and four stolen bases. Kopach had a hit in all four games and scored four runs. He ended the week strong, going 7-for-11 (.636) over the final two games of the Louisiana Monroe series, raising his season batting average to .417. Kopach has a hit in 9 of 11 games this season and has reached in 10 of 11.
Blake Billinger (VALPO) – The leading hitter (.444 AVG)
on a Valpo team that ranks 11th nationally in batting average, Billinger went 5-for-10 with five doubles, a home run, 18 total bases, a .900 slugging percentage and seven RBIs this week to help Valpo to two wins over WAC preseason favorite Grand Canyon and a pair of one-run losses to CSUN. Billinger is tied for fifth nationally with seven doubles this season. He had multiple hits in all four games this weekend and has multiple hits in eight of his 10 games in a Valpo uniform. He doubled three times on Friday against CSUN, becoming the first Valpo player with three doubles in a game since 2008.

Preseason All-Americans
Two Missouri Valley Conference baseball players were named to the D1Baseball.com All-American team, as announced by the organization. Missouri State shortstop Jeremy Eierman was a first-team selection, while DBU outfielder Jameson Hannah was a third-team choice. Eierman was also a first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and a second-team selection by the NCBWA. MSU teammate Jake Fromson was also honored by Collegiate Baseball, earning second-team honors.
Award Nominees Galore
The bevy of award watch lists has several MVC student-athletes as nominees for national awards. Missouri State’s Jeremy Eierman is among 55 players on the Golden Spikes Award watch list, which honors the top baseball player in the country. Missouri State’s Jake Fromson and Southern Illinois’ Ryan Netemeyer are listed among 52 student-athletes on the preseason NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award watch list, given to the top relief pitcher.
MVC Finds Success in MLB Draft
A total of 24 MVC players had their names called during the Major League Baseball Player Draft in 2017. Missouri State’s Jake Burger was the top pick for the league with the 11th overall pick by the Chicago White Sox. Missouri State and DBU had six players drafted while Indiana State and Southern Illinois had four players selected. Evansville and Wichita State each had two players chosen. The 24 MVC players chosen is the most for the league since 27 players were taken during the 2007 MLB Draft. By sweeping this past weekend’s series at Belmont, Bradley has extended its winning streak to eight games, it’s longest winning streak since a 10-gamer from April 22-May 12, 2007 ... As Bradley has yet to play a home game, all eight games in the streak have been won away from home - five in true road games and three on neutral fields ... Seven of the 10 wins in the 2007 streak were at home ... Bradley had not previously won as many as eight consecutive games away from home, consecutively nor separated by home games, since a 10-game winning streak Feb. 26-March 14, 2005 that consisted of six true road games and four neutral-site games ... In a remarkable scheduling coincidence, Bradley will play its next game Friday at Jacksonville, which ended that 2005 winning streak in the only other previous meeting between the two programs.
Hot Start at the Plate
Through the season’s first nine games, Bradley is batting .331 as a team and the Braves have outhit their opponent (.225 average) in each of the nine games ... Of the 15 batters with a plate appearance through the first three weekends, 10 are batting at least .308 ... While freshman OF Eli Rawlinson is one of the five Braves batting below .308, he is tied for second on the team with seven walks for a .387 on-base percentage and he is second on the team with seven RBI’s.

Through the season’s first three weeks, eight different pitchers have appeared in relief for the Braves ... Those eight pitchers are a combined 5-0 with four saves and a 2.23 ERA ... Five of the eight relievers have ERA’s below 1.30.

DBU’s win over Oklahoma on Tuesday marked the 10th win over the Sooners in their last 11 meetings. The Patriots’ winning ways over Oklahoma dates back to the 2011 season when DBU knocked off Oklahoma in the Fort Worth Regional.
Eldred on Fire
Redshirt-freshman Luke Eldred is off to an incredible start to his collegiate career. In three starts, Eldred is 2-1 with a team-best 1.15 ERA. In 15.2 innings of work, Eldred has struck out 10, while not allowing a walk. Opponents are also hitting just a mere .132 against the Patriots’ right-hander. The only two runs that Eldred has allowed this year came on a two-run homer by Clemson’s Seth Beer on February 24.
Approaching Milestone
With three wins this week, Patriots’ head coach Dan Heefner is now six wins away from reaching 400 career victories. Heefner, who entered 2018 with the 19th best winning percentage among active NCAA Division I coaches, now owns a record of 394-212 in his 11 seasons at the helm.

Running Down A Dream
University of Evansville earned it’s first sweep of the 2018 campaign this past weekend, taking three straight from Western Illinois University, winning 4-0, 8-0 and 6-3, respectively.
This season Owen Miller has scored 18 runs this season, which is seventh in the country this season. His 2.0 runs per game average is second-best in the country. As a team, the Redbirds rank third in NCAA Division I in scoring, averaging 11.3 runs per game.

INDIANA STATE (6-5) Finally Some Home Action Indiana State will begin their 2018 home slate this weekend after

playing 11 games on the road to open the season. The Sycamores spent opening weekend in Las Vegas before a seven-game road trip through the state of Tennessee. The Sycamores are 6-5 so far this season with as Western Illinois comes to town this weekend for a three-game series. .
Get On and Score Though Luke Fegen has only started five of 11 games for the Sycamores, the junior has
been one of the top run-scorers for the Trees. Fegen has 11 hits in 27 at bats for a team leading .407 batting average. He has reached base 14 times (11 H, 2 BB, HBP) and has scored 10 runs for the Sycamores. Fegen is sporting a .593 slugging percentage with a pair of doubles and a home run to his credit.
The Streak Continues Jarrod Watkins holds the teams longest hitting streak at 11 games. The junior has 19 hits,
including four doubles and a triple for a .388 average. So far this season, Watkins has strung together six multi-hit performances, including a three-hit day at Austin Peay March 3.

As part of their 6-3 start to the season, the Bears locked up their eighthconsecutive .500 or better month of February. Since the start of the 2011 season, Missouri State has gone a combined 43-15 in February, including a cumulative 28-8 mark over the last five seasons. Overall, the Bears ran their February record to 83-63, with a total of 19 winning months out of the 26 years MSU has seen action in February.

Junior right-hander Dylan Coleman picked up his second mound victory of the season Saturday, with a 7.0 solid innings at No. 24 ECU. Coleman, who allowed three runs on six hits and raised his Missouri Valley Conference-leading strikeout total to 28 on the year. He raised his MSU career total to 216 punchouts, passing Buddy Baumann to move into 15th on the program’s all-time strikeout list. Coleman, who fanned an MVC-high 106 batters in 2016, needs five more K’s to match Clay Murphy’s (2010-14) career total in the No. 14 position. Additionally, he is just 10 strikeouts shy of cracking the top 10.
Holding Serve at Hammonds
Missouri State will open its 2018 home slate this week looking to extend a recent home-field advantage of unprecedented proportions in the history of the MSU program. The Bears have logged their top two single-season home win totals over the last two years, going 21-7 at home last spring, following a Hammons Field record 22 victories in 2016. In 2015, MSU posted its best-ever showing at Hammons with a 19-3 (.864) mark, giving the Bears a combined 62-18 (.775) home record over the last three years. Last season, the Bears hit .295 as a team and out-homered the opposition by a 42-20 margin, while posting a 2.96 ERA in their 28 games at Hammons.

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (3-8) Harrison’s Gem
SIU sophomore left-hander Brad Harrison threw a two-hit shutout at Belmont on Tuesday. Harrison threw seven perfect innings and retired the final 17 Belmont batters of the game. No Belmont hitter reached third base in the game, and Harrison only went to one three-ball count in the game. He threw the complete-game shutout in only 92 pitches. Harrison struck out 11 in the win and walked just one.Ten of Harrison’s 11 strikeouts came during his string of 17-straight batters retired to end the game.
Run With Us
Last year, SIU stole 100 bases to lead the MVC by more than 40. This year, SIU is on pace to steal even more bases. The Salukis already have 24 stolen bases through only 11 games, and SIU leads the Valley by 10. Southern is on pace to eclipse 125 stolen bases in 2018. Connor Kopach has nine stolen bases, which is as good or better than half the MVC teams as a whole.

VALPARAISO (4-6) A Happy Homecoming
Jayden Eggimann made sure his trip to his home state ended on a high note, as the Mesa, Ariz. native slugged a three-run homer to highlight a six-run ninth inning for Valpo on Sunday against Grand Canyon, the team Eggimann played for his freshman season. The prosperous inning snapped a 5-5 tie and helped Valpo to an eventual 11-7 win. Eggimann’s long ball was his first of the season and the third of his Valpo career, and his five RBIs in the game marked a career high. He now owns the team lead in RBIs with 14 and has already driven in more runs than he did all of last season in 30 fewer at-bats.
Offense Keeps Surging
It was another noteworthy week for the Valpo offense, as the Crusaders now own a .339 batting average that ranks 11th nationally despite being a cold-weather team that has played nearly all warm-weather opponents thus far this year. Nine players are hitting .294 or better, led by newcomer Blake Billinger, who is hitting .444 with a .733 slugging percentage. Billinger is tied for sixth nationally with seven doubles, three of them coming in one game against CSUN on Friday, allowing him to become the first Crusader since 2008 with three doubles in a contest.
