MVC ANNOUNCES 2018 BASEBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS ST. LOUIS, Mo. – DBU outfielder Devlin Granberg and DBU pitcher Trevor Conn highlight the 2018 MVC all-conference baseball teams, being tabbed Joe Carter Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Missouri State's Keith Guttin has been named the league's Dan Callahan Coach of the Year, after leading the Bears to their sixth regular-season title in program history and the top seed in this week's MVC Baseball Championship. Granberg is DBU's second Player of the Year, while Conn is the second Patriot to be named Pitcher of the Year. DBU first baseman Kody Funderburk was named Newcomer of the Year and DBU rookie shortstop Jimmy Glowenke earned Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Granberg, a senior outfielder from Hudson, Colo., leads The Valley in batting average (.418, 3rd in NCAA), on-base % (.529, 4th in NCAA), runs scored (57, 28th in NCAA), hits (87, 10th in NCAA), RBI (60, 21st in NCAA), total bases (134, 31st in NCAA) and walks (46, 20th in NCAA). He has a league-best 27 multi-hit games and 16 multi-RBI games this season. He had a 17-game hitting streak earlier this season and ranks in the top five nationally in batting average (3rd) and on-base percentage (4th). The senior standout is also a semifinalist for the NCBWA Dick Howser Trophy. Only once in MVC history has a player won back-to-back batting titles as Wichita State’s Pat Magness accomplished the honor during the 1997 (.409) and 1998 (.464) seasons. Granberg won the 2017 MVC batting title with a .359 average and is on the verge of a second-straight title. Granberg is the second Patriot to earn the Valley’s Joe Carter Player of the Year honor, joining Darick Hall (2016). Conn, a product of Kingwood, Texas, owns a leaguebest 2.21 ERA among all pitchers and has registered an 8-1 record in 14 appearances, including seven starts. His .216 opponent batting average ranks third in the league and he has also added 42 strikeouts in 57.0 innings of work. Conn is the second Patriot to win the Valley's Pitcher of the Year honor, joining Colin Poche (2016).

Devlin Granberg PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Funderburk, a Queen Creek, Ariz., native, and a Mesa Community College transfer, made an immediate impact offensively for the Patriots this season. The junior first baseman hit .303 with 17 doubles, 11 home runs and 41 RBI during the regular season, boasting a .596 slugging percentage. Funderburk ranks top five in the MVC in slugging percentage (3rd), doubles (5th), home runs (4th) and walks (3rd). Funderburk is the second Patriot to earn the Valley's Newcomer of the Year honor, joining Darick Hall in 2016. Glowenke, a shortstop who hails from Lewisville, Texas, has been sensational in his DBU debut. He leads all MVC freshmen in batting, boasting a .325 season average, including a .395 mark in his 21 conference games, which ranks second in the league. Glowenke becomes the second player in DBU history to be named MVC Freshman of the Year, following teammate Jameson Hannah (2016). Glowenke enters the MVC Tournament riding a 19-game hit streak, hitting an astounding .451 (32-for-71) during that stretch. Glowenke also claimed the league's Defensive Player of the Year award. With numerous sensational highlight-reel plays from the shortstop position, Glowenke posted a .984 fielding position with just three errors in 191 chances. The freshman is the second Patriot to earn the league’s Defensive Player of the Year honor, joining Camden Duzenack (2017). Guttin, now in his 36th season as head coach of the Missouri State baseball squad, led the Bears to their sixth regular-season Missouri Valley Conference title in school history. After finishing this season with an 18-3 MVC mark, the Bears set a record for the best two-year record in Valley history (since moving to expanded MVC schedule in 1985). MSU posted a 36-4 (.900) mark over the last two seasons in MVC play. With a career record of 1,254-774 (.618), Guttin needs just one more win to catch Jack Stallings and move into the top 20 on the NCAA’s Division I career coaching wins list. Guttin is the second-winningest coach in MVC history, while his win total ranks sixth among all active Division I head coaches.
