Sermon Series: WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU SITTING ON? Message: “We-Side or Me-Side?” Text: Romans 12:3-8 FIRST STEP: (GROUP DISCUSSIONS – Pick one or two to discuss) 1. 2. 3. 4.
What does a healthy “we-team” look like at Harrisonville Community Church? What do you do best? What do you love to do? Do you know your “sweet spot”? Why can’t church be about our personal preferences and desires? The word servant is used “57” times and serve is used “58” times in the New Testament. What did Jesus and the New Testament writers want us to know, do, and feel regarding service? How can we change?
SECOND STEP: (BIBLE INTAKE – Dig as deep as you desire) 1. Read (Romans 11:33-36): Other than using the word “glory”, how would you define man’s purpose on earth? What is the significance of the three prepositions “from”; “through”; and “to”? How does this verse impact and influence our perspective on Romans 12:1-2?” 2. Read (Romans 12:1-2): Why do you think the “therefore” is there for? What does a living sacrifice mean to you? How does life surrender happen and how does it impact worship? What does “do not be conformed to the world” mean to you? How does one renew their mind? 3. Read (Romans 12:3-8): Give a one word title for this section. What is the relationship of this section to the previous two (11:33-36 and 12:1-2)? What are key elements of the “we”? 4. Read (Romans 12:3-8): What type of grace is Paul talking about? How does one think with sober judgement? Give a practical example of how this occurs in the life of a believer? In what ways is the illustration of the “body” helpful? In what ways is it confusing? How can we do a better job of promoting “body-life” opportunities and experiences? In what ways are we “members of one another” here at HCC? Pick a body part that depicts your role at HCC? 5. Read (Romans 12:6-8): Define and describe each of the seven gifts. Rank your top three gifts from this list. Create two practical ways each gift can be carried out by an HCC attendee. Why does Paul give a descriptor or how to with each of the seven gifts? Is one gift more important than another gift? Is this list a comprehensive list? Which of the seven gifts is the most confusing to understand and apply? Which of the seven gifts is the easiest to apply and why? What are some of the benefits of everyone using their gifts? If only 20% of the congregation is actively involved in ministry, then what happens to the concept of the body or the “we-side”? 6. Read (Romans 12:9-13): Paul uses 13 exhortations/commands in 5 verses. Which of these 13 exhortations is the most challenging for you? How do these verses influence the “we-side”?
