Sermon Series: RED: THE COLOR OF CHRIST! Message: “The Color of Prayer” Text: Luke 18:1-7 FIRST STEP: (GROUP DISCUSSIONS – Pick one or two to discuss) 1. Discuss what the term “perseverance” means to you. 2. Discuss one time when God absolutely came through in prayer in your life. 3. Discuss why prayer is a challenge for most Christians and churches.
SECOND STEP: (BIBLE INTAKE – Dig as deep as you desire)
Read (Luke 18:1-7): In this parable the judge is used to show us all of the things that God is not. After reading the description of the judge, what do we know about God? Does this parable teach us about God helping us to be more willing to pray? Why or why not? Do you feel that the church, Christians, yourself struggles to have a persevering prayer life? What are some prayers the Harrisonville Community Church needs to persevere in? Do they have to do with our community, our country, our people, or our mission/vision? What are some prayers that you are personally persevering in? Share these with the group so that everyone can do the next bullet point. What are some prayers that you are persevering in for someone else? Read (Ephesians 6:18). What prayers are you praying for the saints you know? What would a church look like if prayer were seen as a command and not something we are simply permitted to do? Imagine with each other what Harrisonville Community Church would look like if each member saw prayer as a command. What does it mean in “real life” to pray without ceasing? Read (Luke 18:1): Jesus gives us only two conditions, praying and losing heart. How does prayer keep us from losing heart when life gets difficult? Has there been a time where you can specifically say that prayer kept you from losing heart?
THIRD STEP: (APPLICATION – Be doers of the Word) Take time this week and remember you “ought always to pray”. Remember that prayer is more for building our relationship with God than it is for receiving things. This week pray to God for fellowship. Write out the areas in your life where you feel like you are losing heart. Now pray for those things with perseverance and faith. Cry out. Take time this week to cry out to God in those areas you feel you are losing heart. Be honest, real, vulnerable, and full of faith as you pray.
