Sermon Series: WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU SITTING ON? Message: “Lovebirds or Ravens?” Text: Galatians 5:1-15 FIRST STEP: (GROUP DISCUSSIONS – Pick one or two to discuss) 1. What are some practical ways we can show love within the body of Christ? 2. Compare and contrast “serve one another” and “love one another”. 3. Which of the five love languages of Dr. Gary Chapman best describes you (Quality Time, Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Gifts and Acts of Service)? Which of these do you do most often?

SECOND STEP: (BIBLE INTAKE – Dig as deep as you desire) 1. Read (Galatians 5:1-15): What are the key words/action verbs in this section? How would you summarize this section in one word? What in your estimation were the ravens doing that caused them to devour one another? How would you define the word “freedom” in this context? What other terms could we use if we replaced the words “love” and “serve” and still be true to the instruction of Paul? Which contemporary issue today compares to circumcision? 2. Read (Galatians 2:15-21): How does this section relate to Galatians 5:1-15? In what ways do we see a comparable tension in our churches like the one between the Jewish and Gentile believers in Galatia? How does the fact that we have been crucified with Christ impact the way we serve one another in love? Compare and contrast 2:20 and 5:13. Would you say they are the same? 3. Read (Galatians 3:23-29): Give a one word title for this section. What role does our diversity yet oneness play in whether we love one another or devour one another? What does Galatians 3:28 mean to you? How can we practically live out the reality of this verse here in Harrisonville? 4. Read (Galatians 5:1-15): Define and describe each of these phrases as it relates to us today:  “For freedom Christ has set us free”:  “Christ will be of no advantage to you”:  “You were running well”:  “But through love serve one another”:  “If you bite and devour one another”: 5. Read (Galatians 6:6-10): What is the relationship of sowing and reaping to our love for one another? What does it mean, “do good to everyone”? Why add “the household of faith”?

THIRD STEP: (APPLICATION – Be doers of the Word)  List five ways you can become more of a lovebird at church, home and in the community?  List five people and five specific ways you can do good to everyone and those at HCC?
