T STEPS

Sermon Series: Tweets, Texts and Talks with God Message: “Marker in the Graveyard” Text: Psalm 90 (read also Ecclesiastes 7:1-4; 12:1; 12:13-14) FIRST STEP: (GROUP DISCUSSIONS – Pick one or two to discuss) 1. How old were your parents or grandparents when they died? How long do you expect that you might live? What do you remember about your parents or grandparents passing? 2. Do you feel like you budget your time wisely? How might your life be different if you did? 3. If life is as quick as morning to evening (6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) for seventy years; one would add an hour for every 5 years of life. What time is your life (40 years = 2:00 p.m.)?

SECOND STEP: (BIBLE INTAKE – Dig as deep as you desire) 1. Read (Psalm 90): Describe this Psalm in one word? What are the key words or phrases that are 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

repeated or emphasized? Which makes more sense after reading this Psalm – Moses wrote it before the exodus or after the exodus and why? Do you notice any parallelism or chiasms? Read (Psalm 90): Pastor Mark highlighted verse 10. Which of the 17 verses would you highlight and why? Is Moses pessimistic or optimistic regarding life and death? Did Moses lack wisdom? Read (Psalm 90): The inscription says a “prayer of Moses” and “the man of God”. In what ways does this Psalm read like a prayer? Why? What does “the man of God” mean to you? Read (Psalm 90:1): What is the significance of “the Lord” being a dwelling place, home or refuge for the Israelites? Why did Moses open with the Lord vs. a place? Why “in all generations”? Read (Psalm 90:1-11): What sections of the Genesis 1-11 account of the early beginnings do you find in the first 11 verses of this Psalm? How would you interpret 1000 years? A night watch was usually 3 hours. How does Moses use verses 3 & 4 to enhance his point in vs. 10-12? Read (Psalm 90:10): What is the secret to living past 70 according to verse 10? What is the relationship of toil and trouble to the length of our days? Do you feel that life is too short? Read (Psalm 90:12): Why did Moses ask the Lord to teach him how to number his days? What does it mean to number our days? Is wisdom the result or the purpose of numbering our days? Read (Psalm 90:13-17): Notice the powerful action words or requests of Moses. Which is the most meaningful to you? Compare and contrast the return in verses 3 and 13.

THIRD STEP: (APPLICATION – Be doers of the Word)  Create a budget for your time?  Pray and ask God for wisdom in the key priorities in your life right now.  Write out your own epitaph. Write out your own obituary. Create a will.
