But, just like the Sixth Commandment, there is a lot more to this Commandment when we take a closer look. We read in 1 Corinthians 3:16 that we “are the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwells within.” The passage goes on to explain that the temple of God is holy and should not be defiled, and that we must refrain from sexual immorality. In today’s society, it sometimes (oftentimes) seems that sexual immorality is ENCOURAGED, rather than discouraged. But let’s take the high road and consider the positive side of this Commandment. God does not have a temple or church on Earth. He resides in US each and every day, so He expects us to keep his sanctuary pure and clean. We keep our churches pure and clean. Shouldn’t we do the same with our bodies? God loves us and wants us to have a life partner. That is why he created Eve for Adam. God wants us to be physically intimate with our spouse , “And the two shall become one flesh” Genesis 2:24. God wants us to bring children into a secure and loving home. The Seventh Commandment supports all of this. That’s a good thing, right? God is just trying to protect us. When infidelity or lusting outside of the marriage occurs, several things can happen: Our relationship with God is damaged (remember, he dwells within us every day); we break our promise to be faithful (indicating a character flaw); we (may) produce children without a proper home and Godly example; we expose ourselves to disease; and we (may) become a burden to society. Sexual unfaithfulness creates a great financial burden to tax payers. The good news is that violations of the Seventh Commandment are forgivable sins. Even if we’ve violated this Commandment in the past, we are welcome to sit at God’s table if we ask for forgiveness and move on to live a healthy, Godly life. We are to make an example of ourselves to others, and guide our Toll free 877-239-3655 children on their own marital journey. www.stitchintree.com
