Snuggle Blossom CRIB QUILT PATTERN

This easy to piece crib quilt is made up of two blocks pieced with sashing and a double border. We used blues and greys combined with a floral accent but any colors can be used to create a quilt to your liking. Simple and sweet, this crib quilt will make a lovely gift for a baby shower or a new arrival.

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS 
 Fabric 1 - Grey

1 ¼ yards

Fabric 2 - Med Blue

¾ yard

Fabric 3 - Pale Blue

1 yard

Fabric 4 - Dark Blue

1 ¼ yards

Batting

CUTTING DIRECTIONS WOF = Width of Fabric HST = Half Square Triangle

Fabric 1 - Grey • 20 (4”) squares - for Block 1 • 2 (4 ¼” x WOF) strips - for Block 2

3 ¾ yards (allows for 4” overage)

Backing 3 ¾ yards (allows for 4” overage)


• 10 ( 2”) squares - for Block 1 • 5 (2 ½” x WOF) strips - for Borders

Binding ½ yard (based on 2 ¼” binding)

Fabric 2 - Med Blue • 20 (4”) squares - for Block 1 BLOCK 1

• 2 (4 ¼” x WOF) strips - for Block 2

Fabric 3 - Pale Blue • 2 (2” x WOF ) strips - for Block 1 • 49 (2” x 8”) strips - for Sashing

Fabric 4 - Dark Blue • 2 (2” x WOF ) strips - for Block 1 • 30 ( 2”) squares - for Sashing • 5 (4 ½” x WOF) strips - for Borders

Binding • 6 (2 ¼” x WOF ) strips

HOW TO CONSTRUCT BLOCK 1 All seams sewn with a 1/4” seam allowance WOF = Width of Fabric

1. Sew 1 strip of Fabric 3 (2” x WOF) to 1 strip of Fabric 4 (2” x WOF) along the long side of the fabric. Press to the dark side of the fabric.

2. Cut the strips into 2” wide units. This should give you 20 x 2-patch units.

3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 until you have 40 units in total.

4. Place a 4” x 4” square of Fabric 1, on top of a 4” x 4” square of Fabric 2, right sides together.

5. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of one of the pieces.

6. Sew a 1/4” seam on either side of the drawn line.


 7. Cut along the drawn line.

8. You now have 2 HST’s. Press open to the dark side of the fabric.

9. Trim the the HST’s to 3 ½” square. 10. Repeat steps 4 to 9 until you have 40 half square triangles. 11. Layout your pieces as shown in the image below.

12. Sew each row together as shown in the image below.

13. Sew all three rows together to form the block.

14. Repeat steps 11 to 13 to form a total of 10 blocks.

HOW TO CONSTRUCT BLOCK 2 All seams sewn with a 1/4” seam allowance WOF = Width of Fabric

1. Sew 1 strip of Fabric 1 (4 ¼” x WOF ) to 1 strip of Fabric 2 (4 ¼” x WOF ). Press open to th dark side of the fabric.

2. Cut the strip into 4 ¼” wide units. This should give you 10 units.

3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 with the remaining strips of fabric. You should now have 20 x 2patch units.

4. Lay out the units to form a square with alternating colours as shown below.

5. Sew together to form a square.

6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 until you have 10 blocks.

At this point, you should now have 10 x propeller blocks and 10 x 4-patch blocks.

Sashing All seams sewn with a 1/4” seam allowance WOF = Width of Fabric

1. Take 28 of the 2”x 8” sashing strips (Fabric 3). 2. Sew a 2” square (Fabric 4) to one end of each of these pieces.

3. Take ONE of the 2”x 8” sashing pieces (Fabric 3). 4. Sew a 2” square (Fabric 4) to each end of this piece only.

5. You should now have the following sashing pieces. A - 20 pieces of sashing without any blocks added.
 B - 28 pieces of sashing with a 2” block added to one end.
 C - 1 piece of sashing with a 2” block added to each end

6. Sew the sashing to each block as shown in the image below.

Press in the direction of the arrows below.

7. Layout the pieces as shown in the image below and sew the remaining sashing pieces to the top and left hand side blocks.

Piecing the Quilt All seams sewn with a 1/4” seam allowance 1. Sew the blocks together into rows as shown.

2. Sew the rows together to form the centre of the quilt.

Adding the Borders All seams sewn with a 1/4” seam allowance

NOTE: The borders will need to be pieced so that they measure the required lengths. BORDER 1 (GREY)

BORDER 2 (TEAL)

1 & 2 - measure 47” x 2 ½”
 3 & 4 - measure 42” x 2 ½”

5 & 6 - measure 51” x 4 ½”
 7 & 8 - measure 50” x 4 ½”

1. Sew the borders on in the order as shown below.

FINISHING THE QUILT All seams sewn with a 1/4” seam allowance 1. Divide the backing fabric into 2 pieces. Sew together lengthwise. 2. Cut batting to size plus 4” to allow for quilting. 3. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing and quilt as desired. 4. Add binding to finish.
