“ The well targeted care and support for pupils enable them to flourish in a safe and secure environment.“ Ofsted 2010

We believe that a happy child is a child who achieves their potential. All the staff and children work together to create a curriculum that is personalised, exciting, and enjoyable, whilst offering challenge. We create an environment where enquiring minds lead to independent learning.

Behaviour and discipline

Assessment

Our school actively promotes good behaviour, we expect all children to be polite and considerate at all times. We have a School Council and a Buddy system which help to give the children ownership of the behaviour in school.

Children’s progress is monitored and challenging targets are set. The targets are shared with the children and they regularly review them with their teacher. Parents Evenings are held twice a year for parents to meet the class teacher to discuss their child’s progress. A report is written and sent out for each child during the Summer Term.

“ Strong relationships and good pastoral care result in pupils’ good behaviour and enthusiasm for learning.“ Ofsted, 2010

Healthy Lifestyle We teach and promote healthy living and the school kitchen provides a healthy school lunch. Milk and fruit are available at break time for all the children; children have free milk until the term in which they are 5, after that time, there is a small termly charge. Fruit is free for children in the Early Years and Key Stage 1. Key Stage 2 can have fruit; there is a small charge for this.

How can I help? All parents are members of our friendly and supportive PTA. Events for both children and parents are organised through- out the year; these are mainly organised to raise money for extras for the children, but some evenings are organised with the emphasis on fun for children, adults or both!

Homework Children and parents are encouraged to share work at home. This includes reading, learning words/spellings and, as they progress through the school, additional tasks will be set according to the needs of the children and the curriculum. We run regular curriculum meetings for parents to help them to support their children’s learning and support sessions for children who are experiencing difficulties with a certain aspect of their learning.

What will my child learn? In Nursery and Reception children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, this curriculum covers development in Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication, Language and Literacy, Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Creative and Physical Development. In Y1 – Y4 children follow the National Curriculum. (You can find more information about this on our website). Learning is planned across each Key Stage to ensure that there is continuity and progression. We include visits to support work in class. Children are given opportunities to use artefacts, photographs and the Internet to develop their skills and knowledge. Throughout the school we address the Government requirements of “Every Child Matters” and our policies and procedures comply with legislation regarding safeguarding.
