Intramural Sports Sand Volleyball Rules 2017-2018 Sand Volleyball Rules: Note: Games will be played under USA Volleyball Sand Volleyball Rules. The following are highlights/modifications of these rules. EVERY INTRAMURAL PARTICIPANT MUST HAVE A CURRENT TCU ID IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE. BEFORE EVERY EVENT YOUR TEAMS ID’S MUST BE TURNED INTO THE SCORE KEEPER. Number of players: Two teams consisting of 4 players each will play the game. A minimum of 3 players must be present to avoid a forfeit. Eligibility: Current TCU students, faculty, and staff are eligible to participate. A player may only participate on one men’s or women’s team. They may also play on one co-rec team. Each team may have 1 club volleyball player and each co-rec team may have only 1 male and/or 1 female club player on each roster (basically, you may have up to 1 women’s club and 1 men’s club player). In Co-Rec, the difference between Males and Females can never be greater than one. Rosters: Rosters are due by the beginning of the season for each team with a minimum of 3 players. Teams may not exceed 8 players. Additional players may be added through the regular season only. Deleting players will only be done at the discretion of the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports. Team Captains: Each team will designate to the referee a team captain. That captain will be the spokesperson for that team. They are the only person allowed to speak with the officials. Coaches may not be captains. Time: *Game time is forfeit time. A team must have a minimum of 3 team members present and ready to participate at the scheduled game time in order to avoid a forfeit. 1. Matches will consist of the best 2 out of 3 rally scoring to 15. If a third game is necessary it is rally scoring to 11. 2. You must win by 2 and there is NO cap.

3. You must switch sides at the conclusion of each game. If necessary, during the third game, teams will switch sides once a team reaches 8 points. 4. Each team is allowed one 30 second timeout per game. Equipment: 1. Proper athletic attire required. 2. TCU will provide a game ball. However, if a team wishes to use their own volleyball it must be agreed upon by both teams. 3. No Jewelry may be worn during Intramural Competition. Player Disqualification: A player will be ejected for the following: 1. Any act which, in the official’s judgment, is intended to injure another player. 2. Throwing a punch at ANYONE (whether it connects or not). 3. Contact with an official. 4. Any other act deemed severe enough by the official (i.e. extreme or extended use of profane language). An ejected player must leave the game site and sound after filling out paper work with the supervisor on duty. If the person being ejected fails to leave then the game will result in a forfeit. Any person ejected must meet with the Intramural Director before he/she may participate again. Teams are responsible for their spectators. The same rules for behavior apply to them and affect each team.

Game Rules/Definitions: 1. The coin toss winner may elect to serve, serve receive, or side. 2. The team not serving first in the game shall serve first in the second game. 3. A new coin toss is performed before the third game, if necessary. 4. Player Positions a. At the time of service all players must be inside the boundaries of the court. b. Players do not have to play in set positions. c. Players must maintain the same service order throughout the match. d. If a player is substituted for, he/she must return to the same spot in the service order. 5. Service a. A legal serve will take place from behind the team’s end line anywhere inside the sidelines. b. Serving player must remain behind the end line until the ball has been served. If player serves in the air, he/she can land on or inside the line c. A legal serve can touch the net on the way over. 6. Play at Net b. Player contact with the net is prohibited. c. In blocking, a player may touch the ball beyond the net provided that he/she does not interfere with opponent’s play. d. A player may cross under the net provided it does interfere with opponent’s play. CO REC RULES: If a team hits the ball more than once, it must be touched by a female player before it goes over the net. The difference between Males and Females can never be greater than one.
