Events Recap Play Day - Orangeburg Country Club On April 29, we held a Fun Play event at a course that many of our members had never played. Orangeburg Country Club treated us to a nice (although hot!) day. The golf was challenging and the food was awesome. A donation to charity bought participants a chance at the par-3 closest-to-the-pin contests, which were won by Barb Syler and Janet Hoffmann. When all was said and done, we had raised $140 for Kershaw County Adoption Center, a charity chosen in memory of Brenda Gould due to the love she had for her fur babies - Parker, Miracle, and Honey. EWGA Chapter Championship – Oak Hills Our annual Chapter Championship was held on Saturday, May 13. Although the forecast was for severe thunderstorms, the storms never showed up. Mostly cloudy with an occasional drizzle was all we got. A couple of inches of rain the night before left us with cart-path only golf, which made the round a little longer, but we were still thankful to miss the storms. We had around 25 participants, both in competition and fun-play. All those listed in the Scoreboard below earned the right to represent our chapter at the Semi-Finals at Rivers Edge Golf Course in Shallotte, NC in mid-July. Best of luck to all!

Social Corner Thirsty Fellow On April 20 and again on May 18, the Third Thursday social was held at Thirsty Fellow. On both occasions, the group was able to sit outside on the covered porch and enjoy a nice relaxing evening of good food, cold beverages, and great company. Future Third Thursday socials will be held at various local restaurants on the third Thursday of each month. Location suggestions are welcome. Drive, Chip, & Putt On May 20, quite a few of our members volunteered at the PGA’s Drive, Chip, and Putt Qualifier held at Par Tee Driving Range in Cayce. It was a fun day hanging with golfers from age 7 to 15 - some quite skilled and some just beginning to learn the game. Those who qualified from each gender/age group will advance to Subregionals at Fort Jackson Golf Course, where they will compete for the opportunity to go to Regionals at Pinehurst and possibly to the finals at Augusta National during Masters Week next year. Hopefully, this local Qualifier will become an annual volunteer opportunity for us.
League 2017 Many thanks to Martie Weaver for running our Wednesday afternoon league, which so far is going great. Our favorite grill lady, Wendy, has agreed to keep the grill open for us to have social time/dinner with her after the round, if we have at least 10 people order food. Over the last several weeks, we have had a large group of ladies playing, and most stay after, so we’ve been able to enjoy our grill time. Let’s keep it going! As a reminder, after your round, please mail a copy of your scorecard to Martie ([email protected]). Include your Modified Stableford points earned during the 9 holes (see points below). Also, remember to include your number of putts. Eagle = 6 points; Birdie = 5 points; Par = 4 points; Bogey = 3 points; Double Bogey = 2 points; Triple Bogey = 1 point
President’s Cup On Sunday, May 21, President’s Cup, our one-round-a-month tournament just reached the half-way point of the year. 6 rounds down – 5 to go. Look for the President’s Cup dates on our calendar and come join us. If you don’t want to participate in the Cup competition, that’s ok. All members are still welcome to play with the group.
