The Hill’s Chapel House Call April 2017

Come to Sunday Lunch The UMW has decided to have a fund raiser for the budget by having some lunches after our church service. The first one will be Sunday, April 9th. Shannon volunteered to cook the first one. She and Julie will be preparing the food. There will not be a set price, it will be by donations. The ladies will take money for the food and the rest will be our profit. The same day we will have a bake sale. You can enjoy a delicious meal and take a dessert home. The ladies had a lot of good ideas for lunch. If you enjoy this let us know and we will do more. We have a lot of good cooks. Tuesday April 11th is our regular supper. The money that night will go as a love gift to Kristen Dickson. Please come and support both of our meals that week. Mae Goff

Hilltoppers The Hilltoppers enjoyed a lunch at Stacy’s Restaurant on Thursday, March 16th. We had 19 happy and hungry folks. Our plans for this spring have not been made but we will have something for you soon. With the nice warm weather coming we will plan something for outside or a short trip. Thanks for supporting us, if you think of something you would like to do let us know. Mae Goff and Georgia Stephens

United Methodist Women The supper in March was great with so much delicious food and a good crowd. The fellowship is always the best. We made $350.00. The next supper is Tuesday, April 11th. This money will go as a love gift to Kristen Dickson. Let’s all show up andMemorials show Kristen how much we love her. If you are not coming to our meals you are missing great fellowship as well as the best food. Thanks for your support. The food is good, just ask Lee Hudson! Mae Goff

Pastor’s Pen As Barry Manilow put it, looks like we made it! Spring has arrived, the birds are singing when I wake up in the morning, the weather (to use a British-ism) is hotting up, and Easter is almost upon us. What will you be doing on April 16? For those counting at home, that’s the date of Easter this year. Some people will be thrilled because they feel that when they get up that morning Lent will be over and they can binge on chocolate of potato chips or whatever it was that they gave up for Lent. Others will get up and put on their new Easter outfit and come to church all decked out and looking good. And still others will get up and look out to sea or across the mountains or whatever vista their second day of Easter vacation offers them. But my question is not what will you be doing on Easter, but what will Easter be doing on you?? We will have finished our season of Lent, our intentional season of getting our lives closer to God. Will we be able to tell come Easter morning? Will this Easter be any different from last Easter? To paraphrase an exercise coach, will we have just gotten through Lent, doing the bare minimum, or will we have pushed ourselves to really get better? OK, let’s take that left turn at Albuquerque - have you ever gone out to eat and had a waiter or waitress that was having a bad day? Surly, banging dishes, acting like they were doing you a favor by acknowledging your presence? Just makes you happy to be there, doesn’t it? Now, have you ever eaten at Chick Fil A? I don’t know who came up with their training regimen, but everyone is always nice and pleasant and “My pleasure” and “Thank you.” Vive la difference! When someone smiles at you, it is awfully hard not to want to smile back. As we sing, Christ is alive, let Christians sing! The tomb is empty, the bonds of sin and death are broken! What does this do to you? What does Christ being raised from the dead, for you, and coming out of the tomb, for you, having been crucified, for you, do to you?? You health or financial problem may not disappear. You may not always be happy to go to work or to school. But does it make you smile? And - have you ever taken the time to say Thank you, Jesus? That’s our homework for Easter - let it sink in that Jesus did all of this for you, meditate on it, pray on it, realize what it means, let it make you smile as it all dawns on you...and then take the time to thank Jesus for what he has done for you. John Wesley lived for quite a long time before it finally sank in to him that Jesus did all that “for me, even me.” As we finish our last couple of weeks of our Lenten journey, may that time of drawing closer to God lead us into new life - new life in God that really is the Father’s pleasure to share with each and everyone of us.
