TONER AVENUE PRIMARY SCHOOL
TONER AVENUE PRIMARY SCHOOL The Governing Board of Toner Avenue Primary School works with the Head Teacher to promote and maintain high standards of educational achievement. The core functions of the Governing Board are: Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction; Holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance of staff and; Overseeing the financial performance of the school, and making sure its money is well spent. Key issues that have faced the Governing Board during 2014-15 During 14-15 one of the key issues that the Governing Board faced was the recruitment of a suitable head teacher once the current head teacher left in December 2014. An executive head teacher was put in place January 2015. She splits her week between Biddick Hall Junior School and Toner Avenue School. Another key issue was that the Year 6 teacher left Christmas 2014 and the governing board needed to recruit a suitable candidate. This successful appointment was made and it had no detrimental effect on the 2015 KS2 SAT results. Another key issue again to do with staffing - the Year 3 teacher left and the class she taught had already suffered in Reception with a range of teachers. A successful appointment was made and again it had no detrimental effect on the pupils Assessment of the impact of the Governing Board on the school during 2014-15 The governing board constantly challenges the executive head teacher and Head of School. The impact of the decisions that the governing board has made in regards to staffing have ensured that there is an improving picture in regards to data across all key stages. Also the impact that the governing board has had on the school means that the school is ready for the next stage of its development into a good school through the challenge and support it has given
