Next Week: Monday 22nd—Back to school Tuesday 23rd—Choir singing at Sage Wednesday 24th Year 5 Spelling Bee
ot only was it pancake day on Tuesday, it was also Safer Internet Day! All of the children learned about the positives of using the internet. Each child completed a love heart with a message of what they like to do on the internet. They include research for homework and skyping friends with parent's permission.
Every class had a photograph of a person; we had to ‘post’ comments around it. We discussed how important it was to be positive online. It was great to know that the children know exactly what to do if they ever received receive a nasty message online. Owen in Y2 said that if anyone is nasty online "you can block them and you will never hear from them again" We had lots of incredible entries for our desktop background competition. Now the School Council have a very tricky job as they must choose the winner. The winning entry will be sent to a graphic designer and will be set as the desktop background for every laptop and computer in school!
Mrs McBarron and Miss Cox successfully completed their Kid Safe tutor qualifications this week, meaning we are now proud to be a Kid Safe School!. They can’t wait to get started and introduce the children their new special friend.

Just a reminder that World Book Day is Thursday 3rd March. We will be asking the children to come dressed as their favourite book character.
On Tuesday 9th February Year 5 went to Las Iguanas restaurant in Newcastle. The purpose of the visit was to enrich the children’s knowledge and understanding of their topic work on Brazil. When we first arrived at the restaurant we were shown to our private dining area downstairs, where our tables were already prepared. One member of each table was chosen by an adult to make a nonalcoholic cocktail called a ‘Citrus Cooler’. This was to cleanse and refresh our palettes in between foods. During the afternoon we were able to sample a range of South American, and in particularly Brazilian foods, ranging from Totopas to Nachos, Empanadas to Quesadillas. The highlight dish was ‘Feijoada’, the national dish of Brazil. We finished off our experience of South American food by sampling Churros, which we were able to dip in a very indulgent chocolate sauce. The trip was enjoyed by all children and adults, and we would definitely recommend a visit to the restaurant. You can see photos of us enjoying the delicious delicacies on the website gallery.
