CATS AND DAWGS TO BATTLE ON PAC-12 TV APRIL 23 IN SEATTLE

The Washington State track and field teams will compete in a dual meet against the University of Washington for the 98th year for men and the 38th year for women this Sunday, April 23, at Husky Track in Seattle...scoring is 5-3-1 for individual events and 5-0 for relays...field events begin at 9 a.m. and running events begin at 2 p.m...Pac-12 Network Live TV coverage begins at 3 p.m...announcers are Jim Watson, Tom Feuer, and Dwight Stones with Elizabeth Moreau on the field...in national rankings: MEN - UW No. 55, WSU No. 78; WOMEN - UW No. 12, WSU No. 65...link for Live Results will be active on wsucougars.com later this week...results will be available online at www. wsucougars.com after the meet...for more information about the history of the meet, see below. WAYNE PHIPPS, DIR. OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD Wayne Phipps (University of British Columbia ‘91) is in his third season with the Washington State track and field program...he became the 15th men’s coach and the second coach for the combined men’s and women’s program at WSU on July 1, 2014, after 19 years at the University of Idaho...Phipps led the Cougar men’s cross country program back-to-back NCAA Championships at-large berth appearances with a 14th-place finish in 2016: the highest in 32 years after the entire 2015 team that placed 26th returned for the 2016 season....during the 2016 Track & Field season, a pair of Cougs earned second-team All-America honors...Cougars tallied 25 new entries into the WSU all-time top ten records...while at Idaho, Phipps was conference coach of the year 14 times, and led the Vandals to a record 16 conference titles. COUGARS & HUSKIES DUAL MEET HISTORY: 38TH YEAR FOR WOMEN, 98TH YEAR FOR MEN Huskies swept the dual meet in 2016 for the second consecutive year: 95-68 men, 100-63 women...men’s dual meet history is not clear-cut, with some multi-scored meets also scored as dual meets...after several years of research by both the Washington and WSU Athletic Communications offices, the WSU records show 2017 is 98th year of a dual meeting between the Cougars and Huskies men’s teams...WSU leads the series 61-38-1...there are also records of meetings in multi-team meets but are not counted as the main dual meet of that season...this is the 38th year for a dual on the women’s side...overall, UW women lead 23-18.
