FIRE: CW_PS_Acting Bug Hello and welcome to my backyard! My name is Bug. Well, that is not really my name, but that is what all my friends call me because I love to play outside and (move butterfly net to catch pretend bugs) catch all kinds of bugs. I love to pretend I am camping right here in the backyard! I love it so much I wanna stay out here and camp EVERY day! Would you like to camp with me? Kids Yes!

Bug Great! While I’m camping I like to go on bear hunts. Let’s all go on a bear hunt together! Just pat your legs like this and follow me… (Start slow patting rhythm.) (Bug and Kids REPEAT lines in chant together.) FIRE: CW_PS_BearHunt_Swamp Bear Hunt Chant We’re going on a bear hunt. (Pat legs.) (Bug and Kids do motions and REPEAT.) We’re looking for a big bear. (Make binoculars with hands.) (Bug and Kids do motions and REPEAT.) Ooooooooh look! (Look RIGHT and point.) (Bug and Kids do motions and REPEAT.) It’s a squishy swamp. (Lift feet as if stuck in mud.) (Bug and Kids do motions and REPEAT.) We can’t go around it. (Shake head “No” and hold hands out to the side, palms up.) (Bug and Kids do motions and REPEAT.) Let’s walk through it. (Point forward.) (Bug and Kids do motions and REPEAT.) (Pretend to walk in squishy swamp.) Squish, squish, squish, squish. (Bug and Kids do motions and say WITH Voiceover.) And stop! Brownie Bear Well, howdy campers! Brownie Bear, here! If you wanna stay and camp out here all day, you have to follow the two camping rules. Everyone hold up one finger. (Bug & Kids hold up one finger.) Brownie Bear (continued) The first camping rule is to BE KIND. Let me hear you say that with me. Bug & Kids Be kind! Brownie Bear You got it! We can BE KIND to other campers by listening when others are talking and by staying quiet so we can hear all the critters around us. Now everyone hold up two fingers. (Bug & Kids hold up two fingers.) Brownie Bear (continued) Camp rule number two is to BE SAFE. Let me hear you say that with me. Bug & Kids Be safe! Brownie Bear Campers, safety is very important here in the great outdoors. You never know if there is going to be a prickly plant or a stiiiiiiinky skunk right around the corner. So in case you forgot, the way to stay SAFE is to sit in your spot. Let me see you all sit up really tall in your spot. (Bug & Kids will sit up tall and still.) Brownie Bear You’re looking mighty safe to me! Now campers, hurry back to your yard so you can have s’more camping fun! I will see you around the campfire a little later! AUTO ADVANCE: CW_PS_Acting Bug We just saw a real bear on our bear hunt! And Brownie Bear wasn’t scary at all! She’s our friend! And she’s right, we need to hurry back to my yard. Bug (Relieved, wiping brow.) Whew, we made it! We went on a bear hunt. And now we’re ready to camp! Seeing a bear was so cool! I wonder if we will see or HEAR (cup hand to hear as if listening) any other animals while we’re camping today? FIRE: CW_PS_Hoot Bug (continued) Oh, look! It’s Hoot the owl! Campers, Hoot is an owl who hangs out high up in the trees. Anytime we hear Hoot that means he wants to sing with you and me! Hoot loves to sing songs to Jesus, and I do, too! (Motion for Kids to stand.) Let’s all stand up and sing with him! FIRE: CW_PS_Song1 (“Praise the Lord”) AUTO ADVANCE: CW_PS_Acting
ACT TWO: Bible Story & Need to Know Bug That was so fun! (Motioning for Kids to sit.) You can sit back down & rest on the soft ground. You know, singing is one my favorite things to do when I am out here camping. But you wanna know what my MOST favorite thing is? Kids Yes! Bug (Run over and sit beside campfire) Stories by the CAMPFIRE!!! Brownie Bear tells the BEST stories! Campers, if we listen VERY carefully to her story, Brownie Bear will let us roast marshmallows and make s’mores! I love to roast marshmallows! It is so fun! If there is one thing I love more than a jar of honey, it is an ooey-gooey s’more with sticky marshmallows, melty chocolate and golden crackers. Campers, I have a treat for you! Brownie Bear Now you’re ready! There once lived a man named Nehemiah. He was working far away from home in the king’s palace. One day Nehemiah heard that the walls in his hometown were falling down. This made him very sad. Campers, let me see you make a sad face. (Bug & Kids make sad faces.) Brownie Bear Nehemiah wanted to DO WHAT’S RIGHT. So he went to the king and asked to go home so he could fix the walls. And the king said YES! When Nehemiah arrived home, he saw broken walls and burned gates. He talked with the people and said, “Let’s fix the walls!” The people were excited to DO WHAT’S RIGHT and fix the walls with Nehemiah. Campers, let me hear you shout, “Hooray!” Bug & Kids Hooray! Brownie Bear It took a long time, but everyone worked hard to do what’s right and fix the walls! Nehemiah was a LEADER who DID WHAT’S RIGHT! YOU can be a LEADER, like Nehemiah, and DO WHAT’S RIGHT, too. Let me hear you say this after me: (Bug & Kids repeat after Brownie Bear.) Leaders (thumbs to chest) Do What’s Right! It’s almost time to eat our s’mores, but first we have to win our marshmallows by remembering two things from today’s Bible story! Then we can roast our marshmallows to make a yummy s’more treat. So here is our first marshmallow question! FIRE: CW_PS_Wk5_Marshmallow1 Bug (continued) Did Nehemiah go home to CLIMB TREES (pretend to climb) or to FIX WALLS (pretend to hammer)? Kids Fix walls! Bug That’s right! Nehemiah knew that he needed to Do What’s Right (two thumbs up) and fix the walls in his hometown! Okay, it’s time for our last marshmallow question! FIRE: CW_PS_Wk5_Marshmallow2 Bug (continued) Does God want us to Do What’s Right (two thumbs up) only when it is RAINING (make hands move like rain) or EVERY DAY? Kids Every day! Bug You betcha! We can be leaders (thumbs to chest), just like Nehemiah, and Do What’s Right (two thumbs up) every day in all we do and say! FIRE: CW_PS_Acting Bug (continued) We did it! We won some marshmallows! (Rubbing stomach) My tummy sure says it’s time to eat them! But we haven’t ROASTED our marshmallows yet! Everyone hold up your sticks like this. (Hold stick up high.) (Kids hold up pretend sticks.) Bug (continued) Now grab your pretend marshmallow and slide it on your stick. (Demonstrate how to put marshmallow on stick.) (Kids slide pretend marshmallows onto pretend sticks just like Bug demonstrated.)

Bug (continued) Now, let’s hold our marshmallows over the campfire and say, “Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle.” (Hold stick out over campfire.) Bug & Kids (Point sticks toward campfire.) Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle. Bug (Pulling stick up & looking at pretend marshmallow on end.) These look nice and toasty to me! Let’s all put our marshmallows on our graham crackers, like this. (Pull pretend marshmallow off stick and clap hands together, as if sandwiching marshmallow between crackers.) (Kids pretend to make s’mores just like Bug demonstrated.) Bug (continued) Now let’s all gobble them up! (Pretend to smash s’more into mouth, like “Cookie Monster.”) (Bug & Kids pretend to eat s’mores like “Cookie Monster.”) Bug (Rubbing stomach) Yummy yum yum! That was delicious! This has been the BEST day camping out here with all of you! I loved that yummy s’more, but I REALLY loved the story Brownie Bear told us from the Bible! I want to be a leader like Nehemiah and Do What’s Right (two thumbs up). When we do what’s right, we are setting a great example for others in all we say and do!
