Updates on Student Success Networks

High School Graduation with Success • Ann and Stan Met with leadership representing Anti-Bullying Task Force and the School Justice Partnership on March 11 • Comments included – Trauma-informed community – Building relationships – Shared family units

• A presentation will be made to the LC2C Leadership Team on April 19 – Connecting their efforts to Cradle to Career – Identifying resources to bring to the partnership

Kindergarten Readiness • Training for kindergarten teachers on Brigance III tool held March 14. • Roundups occurring with social-emotional screener data being collected. – March 14 training included benefits of the social emotional screener

• Data collection sheets were sent out. • June 28 date for data review to set threshold for “kindergarten readiness” • Conversation about the September 1st date and December 1st waiver – GSRP affected by proposed change by Governor; unlike HeadStart programs that follow a school calendar

Reading by Third Grade • Local schools received state funds for literacy programming • LISD received funds for hiring a literacy coach to work with four schools • Workgroup is preparing a pilot summer reading assessment on comprehension – – – –

Post Secondary Enrollment • LCAN shared at MCAN conference about mentoring program at Jackson College – 11 trained mentors, with five pairings with students choosing topics for dialogue – Checklist used from SHU and AC to monitor mentoring progress

• Around 68% of Lenawee students applying for college • College Cash Campaign occurring through April 1 • Next fall, FAFSA will start in October, combining with application work – SSG Portal for counselors to get student-level data

• Early Interventions workgroup being formed – Meeting with middle school students on postsecondary options – Financial planning programs being connected with postsecondary readiness – TIP information to parents as early as grade 9

• Affordability looking at LCEF application data for Spring 2016 scholarships

FAFSA Completion Data • Currently, less than half of the Class of 2016 have FAFSA applications on file. • Currently, 90% of those applications have been completed. • The rate of completion is similar to the same time in 2015. • Peggy will be meeting with county counselors on March 17th to encourage them work toward a rate that matches the current college enrollment (70% was suggested by Stan)

School Attendance • Through February 2016, – 1384 with 10 or more full days absences – 200 students at 20 or more days full days absences – 1238 students at 10% of full school days

• Total at the end of 2014-15, – 1572 students with 10% of more absences

MI-PHy • 8 of the 11 districts have started the survey with at least one grade level • 3 of the those have completed the survey. • The remaining three plan to do it this spring. • We will not have county data until late June.
