10/28/13 Jeff Petroski U15/16 Capital Area RailHawks Team Member
Jeff Petroski is this week's Capital Area RailHawks Player Spotlight. Jeff is a member of the U15/U16 Capital Area RailHawks Team for the 2013-2014 season. Jeff started playing soccer when he was four years old for the Fayetteville Soccer Club. He played in the Recreational Division for four years, and then moved into club soccer with the FSC Force, at the age of 8. There he played in the Challenge Division for two years before moving into the Classic Division. He then went on to play in the Olympic Development Program in 2010. Within his four years of ODP participation, Petroski made the Region Camp the past four years and was held over for the Region Pool this past summer Jeff recognizes Karl Molnar and Jimmy Maher, as the biggest coaching influences on his development. “Coach Molnar, my FSC coach, gave me a great foundation of soccer knowledge and allowed me to assume a leadership role on the team, even though I was the youngest. Coach Maher has helped me improve my skills and elevate my game to the level it is today. He has worked with me extensively on understanding what it takes to be successful at this level,” says Petroski. Petroski’s biggest club experiences thus far have been winning the NCYSA State Championship and going to Regional Championships for the President’s Cup. Individually, Jeff lists making the ODP Region III Pool in 2013, winning the State Championship in 2013 with FSC, and most recently making the Capital Area RailHawks Academy, as the best soccer accomplishments of his young playing career. Jeff has set specific goals for himself, stating “My short-term goals are to continue to improve all aspects of my game and help our team win in any way I can.” He also hopes to make the U16 RailHawks Academy Team again next year, as well as the U18 Academy Team during his junior and senior years of high school. His long-term goals are to play Division 1 collegiate soccer, play professional y in the MLS or overseas, and make the national team. He has also set goals for the U16 Academy Team. “My goal for the Academy team is that we continue to improve both individually and as a team. I hope we can win our league and make Nationals,” he says. When recognizing what the Academy Program means to him, Petroski says “I am honored to have earned a spot with the RailHawks Academy. To get to wear the RailHawks jersey, to play with great teammates under the best coaches in the state against great competition, is huge. At the same time, I get to receive great coaching and advice on how to develop and improve my game and prepare myself to make it to the next level.” Best of luck to Jeff this year and the U15/16 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team.
