10/7/13  Mason Storm  U15/16 Capital Area RailHawks Team Member

Mason Storm is this week's Capital Area RailHawks Player Spotlight. Mason is a member of the U15/U16 Capital Area RailHawks Team for the 2013-2014 season. Mason started playing soccer at the age of 7 and has played most of his club soccer throughout his young career for Greensboro Soccer Club (now known as Greensboro United Soccer Association – GUSA) and NC Fusion. During the 2012-2013 season, Mason was a member of the U15/16 NC Fusion USSDA Academy Team coached by Mark Simpson. Prior to that, he had an opportunity to participate in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and represented North Carolina t the Regional Camp in Alabama. Storm cites Darren Powell as the biggest coaching influence that he has had in his young career. Darren coached Mason’s U14 Greensboro Team that played in the Region III Premier League and is also the Head Coach at Elon University. Mason identifies the importance of that U14 year of playing R3PLE soccer for his development. “Getting to travel to different states and play against such quality teams really helped me as a player,” he said. Mason’s short term goals for this year are to help the Capital Area RailHawks U15/16 Academy Team to get into the USSDA Playoffs and hopefully into the National Finals Week. Mason is also aspiring to play collegiate soccer at the Division 1 level. Storm feels that the U15/16 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team should be setting goals for improvement and development immediately. “The goal we should have as a team is to get on a roll for our next couple of wins and see if we can establish ourselves at the top of the table. We would also need to carry that momentum into the spring and see if we can’t make a deep playoff run,” said Mason. When recognizing what the Academy Program means to him, Storm says “Playing for the Capital Area RailHawks Academy means a lot to me. The teams that came before us with the CASL Chelsea FC Academy have had so much success, and I look forward to helping sustain that tradition. I also feel like I am in an environment that is giving me an opportunity to succeed and make me the best player that I can be.” Best of luck to Mason this year and the U15/16 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team.
