9/9/13  DJ Mason  U17/18 Capital Area RailHawks Team Member

DJ Mason is this week’s Capital Area RailHawks Player Spotlight. DJ is a member of the U17/18 Capital Area RailHawks Team for the upcoming season in 2013-2014. DJ started playing in the Recreational Division at Capital Area Soccer League (CASL), when he was 7 years old. At age 10, DJ moved up to the Challenge Division within CASL, and then onto the Classic Division at U12. He played for Premier White and made the most of training and guest-playing opportunities with the Elite team, as he made the former CASL Chelsea Team at U13. In the last two seasons, DJ has played for the U14 PreAcademy Team in 2011-2012, and with the U16 CASL Chelsea FC Academy Team in 2012-2013 DJ has played in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) in the past and was named to the NC ODP 2nd Team in 2010. He identifies his selection to a Real Madrid Training Camp through the adidas International Training Program, and his college commitment to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as two of his finest soccer accomplishments. While Mason credits CASL as the single most important club influence he’s had, DJ credits several coaches for having the biggest influence in his young career. “My biggest coaching influences are Bob Harris, Michael Milazzo, and John Bradford,” says Mason. According to DJ, “my short term goals are to get better every day, take advantage of my opportunities, and to help my team win the league.” His long term goals are to play in Europe or outside the U.S., represent the United States, and be successful at UNC. DJ has high hopes for the U17/18 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team. “My goals for the U-18 Academy Team are to not only improve my skill, but try and improve my teammates and help us win the league, at Playoffs, and at National Finals,” says Mason. Mason is looking forward to a great year and recognizes what the Academy Program means to him. “For me, Capital Area RailHawks means a lot. I feel that we have to set the standard for years to come and we want that standard to be as high as it can be. This means being the best, not just a good team.” Best of luck to DJ this year and the U17/18 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team.
