11/5/14  Aaron Shields  U13/14 Capital Area RailHawks Team Member

Aaron Shields is this week’s Capital Area RailHawks Player Spotlight. Aaron is a member of the U13/14 Capital Area RailHawks Team for the 2014-2015 season. Aaron was 3 years old when he started playing, playing in a mini-kickers type of program in Scotland. He then went onto play for Dunfermline Athletic, the same club that Aaron’s father, Greg, had played for. After moving to the United States at age 9, Aaron played for Triangle FC for two seasons prior to moving to Capital Area Soccer League (CASL). Aaron has progressed from the U12 CASL Chelsea Jrs., U13 CASL Academy Jrs., and now with the U14 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team. Aaron’s biggest coaching influence has been his father, Greg. “He is always giving me advice and encouraging me to make me become a better person and a better soccer player overall,” says Aaron. Aaron has quite a few soccer accomplishments and experiences already. He lists winning the 2014 Jefferson Cup as his best soccer accomplishment to date. “Winning the Jefferson Cup meant a lot to me because we faced many goo teams and won the grand prize in the end,” says Aaron. Aaron feels that his ability to see what soccer is like in Europe and in the United States has helped shape him as a player. “One of my proudest experiences was when I got to see my dad play in two Scottish Cup Finals in front of about 60,000 people. I was also lucky enough to be a player mascot in a Manchester United testimonial match, where I met Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Edwin Van der Sar,” recalls Shields. Aaron’s short term goals are to become a strong leader in the 14 Academy Team, to make the U16 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team, and to maximize his potential. His long term goals are to get into a good college for education and soccer, become a professional soccer player, play in the English Premier League, and play for the Scottish National Team. When asked what the Capital Area RailHawks means to him, Aaron says, “The Capital Area RailHawks makes me feel privileged and honored to play and be a part of this program. In my perspective, I am very lucky to be coached by some of the best coaches in this area.” Best of luck to Aaron this year and the U13/14 Capital Area RailHawks Academy Team.
