HEADING INTO WEEK 8 The Southern Connecticut State University women’s volleyball team resumes Northeast-10 Conference play as the Owls prepare for three crucial road games this week. The Owls open week eight with a Northeast-10 Conference showdown against Adelphi University beginning at 7 p.m in Garden City, N.Y.. Southern Conn. will wrap up the week with back-to-back matches against Saint Michael’s College and Saint Anselm College on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. TEAM INFORMATION AND RECORDS - Adelphi currently leads the Northeast-10 Conference with an unbeaten conference record of 6-0. The Panthers are also 15-4 on the season and is currently on a 10-game winning streak. -Saint Michael’s is seventh in the Northeast-10 Conference with a 3-3 conference mark as well as holds a 10-6 overall record. The Purple Knights are on a two-game winning streak after defeating both Saint Anselm and Assumption in five-sets. -Saint Anselm is 12th in the Northeast-10 Conference with a 2-4 conference mark while on a five-game losing streak. The Hawks only two conference wins came from Stonehill and Pace. ALL-TIME AGAINST ADELPHI The Panthers lead the all-time series against the Owls 21-1. ALL-TIME AGAINST SAINT MICHAEL’S The Owls hold a 10-7 edge over the Purple Knights in the all-time series. ALL-TIME AGAINST SAINT ANSELM The Hawks lead the all-time series against the Owls 9-6. WEEK SEVEN RECAP Southern Connecticut wrapped up week seven with a record of 2-2 and 0-1 in the conference. The Owls conference loss came against Bentley University, 3-1, while picking up two non-conference wins against Mercy, 3-1, and Felician College, 3-0. The other loss came from Goergian Court in five-sets. WEEK SEVEN STATS Junior Faith Ford led both the Owls’ offense and defense in kills and blocks averaging 2.56 kills and 1.00 blocks per set. Sophomore Alexandra Nimz recorded four straight doubledoubles for Owls while averaging 10.12 assists and 3.06 digs per set. Sophomores Carly Balskus and Alexandria Jurgens also recorded double-doubles for the Owls .

LOOKING BACK AT LAST YEAR Southern Connecticut finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 7-22 and a conference record of 3-11.
GUNNESON AND HAUSER EARN ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Kelly Gunneson and Nicole Hauser were two out of 37 SCSU student-athletes that were named to the Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement award for the 2014-15 academic year. The student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
O’CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN For the second year in a row, seniors Morgan Carman and Kelly Gunneson will serve as team captains for the Owls this fall.
GUNNESON INDUCTED INTO NATIONAL MATH HONOR SOCIETY Last fall, Kelly Gunneson was inducted into Pi Mu Epsilon, the National Math Honor Society.
RETURNING TO THE COURT The Owls have 13 student-athletes returning from last year’s team, including Morgan Carman, Jasmin Barrett, Taylor Carlson, Kelly Gunneson, Sean Taylor, Alexandra Nimz, Carly Balskus, Alexandria Jurgens, Taylor Flowers, Faith Ford, Briauna Tutwiler, Haley Samuelson and Taylor MacDowell.
GUNNESON NAMED TO NE-10 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM Senior Kelly Gunneson was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team for her work in the classroom and on the court last fall. To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: participated in at least half of the team’s competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; achieved a 3.3 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.
OWLS WELCOME FIVE NEWCOMERS The Owls welcome five student-athletes to the team this year: Bridgette Walsh, Jennifer Dawson, Leanna Jadus, Jessica Schmitz and Janae Owen.
