The Vassar baseball team hosts its final contest on Prentiss Field this season, as the Valiants of Manhattanville come to town for a non-conference contest. The Brewers are coming off a 3-1 series victory over Bard College, winning the first three games before falling 4-3 in the finale. The Brewers currently sit in the fourth spot in the Liberty League standings, a half-game in front of RPI. Vassar leads the Liberty League in hit by pitches at the plate, being hit 53 times this year, while also ranking in the top half of the league in on-base percentage. Freshmen Matt Martino and sophomore Taylor Smach are in the top 10 in the Liberty League in on-base percentage, while junior Bobby Kinne is 10th in the conference in runs scored with 25 this year. Senior Adam Erkis tossed one of the best games ever on Saturday for Vassar, allowing Bard just one hit and no runs for a complete game shutout. Look for sophomore Bryan Rubin to get the start this afternoon, as the Brewers will commit to a staff day where multiple pitchers will throw.

A Look at the VALIANTS Manhattanville has won its last three games including three one-run wins over Wilkes this past weekend. The Valiants are 10-8 in the MAC Freedom conference, finishing their regular season this upcoming weekend with three games against Misericordia. Manhattanville is hitting .300 as a team this season, which ranks fourth in the MAC Freedom, while the ERA as a staff is 6.39 and fourth in the league as well. Manhattanville is second in the conference in homers with 11, and also has stolen 81 bases on the year, second most in the MAC. The Valiants also catch the ball well, posting a league-leading .967 fielding percentage. Luke Scoggins has a team-best .406 batting average, while posting 52 hits and eight doubles. Peter Iannarilli is tops in the MAC Freedom with a .531 on-base percentage, while adding 28 walks on the season. John Delahanty is second on the team with a team-best 10 doubles, while Robbie Lynch has launched six homers to go with a team-best 33 RBI.

Brewer Bio on . . . JOhn Madsen Madsen, a junior right-hander from Needham, Massachusetts, has been a great option for the Brewers out of the bullpen this season. The tall relief pitcher has carved out a great role this year out of the bullpen, appearing in 13 games, pitching in 8.1 innings while allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out five batters and a .143 batting average. On the year, Madsen has come on and been lights out against right-handed batters, as opposition is hitting just .100 this year. Also, Madsen has allowed just five inherited runners to cross home plate out of the 24 runners he has inherited. Since April 9, Madsen has inherited 10 runners in six appearances, and has not allowed one to score. On April 14 at Union, Madsen inherited three runners with one out and not one crossed the plate.
