Uses 3 different fabrics. Directions are for an 11-‐inch block. Cut the focal fabric into a 5 ½ inch square Cut fabric 2 2 width of fabric 1 ½ inch strips take one strip and cut 4 -‐ 5 ½ inch blocks 4 -‐ 2 ½ inch blocks 4 -‐ 3 ½ inch blocks save second strip for final border Cut fabric 3 1 width of fabric 1 ½ inch strip cut 4 -‐ 1 ½ inch squares 4 -‐ 3 ½ inch blocks Sew a 5 ½ by 1 ½ inch fabric 2 block to the top of the center 5 ½ inch square. Sew a 5 ½ by 1 ½ inch fabric 2 block to the bottom of the center 5 ½ inch square. Press open.
Attach a 1 ½ inch square from fabric 3 to each end of the 2 remaining 5 ½ by 1 ½ inch fabric 2 blocks. Press seams open. Press toward fabric 2.
Sew the fabric 2/fabric 3 combination to the sides of the center block. Press open.
Divide the 4 – 3 ½ by 1 ½ inch fabric 3 blocks into 2 piles. Sew the 2 ½ by 1 ½ inch fabric 2 blocks onto each end of 2 of the fabric 3 blocks and the 3 ½ by 1 ½ inch fabric 2 blocks onto each end of the other 2 fabric 3 blocks. Press open.
Sew the 2 ½ inch fabric 2 pieces onto the top of the center block.
Sew the 2 ½ inch fabric 2 pieces onto the bottom of the center block. Press open.
Sew the 3 ½ inch fabric 2 pieces onto the side of the center block.
Sew the 3 ½ inch fabric 2 pieces onto the opposite side of the center block. Press open.
Sew the final width of fabric, fabric 2 strip to the top of the center block, carefully cutting the left over fabric. Sew the final width of fabric, fabric 2 strip to the bottom of the center block, carefully cutting the left over fabric. Press open.
Sew the final width of fabric, fabric 2 strip to each side of the center block, carefully cutting the left over fabric. There should be enough of one with of fabric to go completely around the quilt block. Press open.
