What is Himalayan Pink? It is a form of salt, mined in the Himalayas, containing trace amounts of iron oxide to give it it's unique color. There are many claims of the health benefits of this salt as it contains all 84 nutrients in the human body -- claims yet to be proven by some. The name of this quilt calls it pink, but you can use any color combination you wish. This FQ quilt pattern relies on a variety of sizes of stripped strata, all cut into 60 degree triangles. It is a fun way to see how a few chosen colors work together.

SUPPLIES: HIMALAYAN PINK pattern -- by Madison Quilt Design -- REQUIRED

Fabric requirements: depend on the size of quilt you choose to make. Sample is the medium size, which calls for 19 FQ. Choose a few colors that work well together, and pull your FQ's from fabrics that concentrate on your chosen color combination. A few highly patterned fabrics will work, but choose some that are less patterned. Small size calls for 11 FQ's, and large size requires 27 FQ's. Creative Grids 60 degree Triangle ruler (CGRT60) -- or any 60 degree ruler that is at least 8".

Sewing machine with foot pedal and power cord in working order (be sure you can sew an accurate 1/4" seam, fill and change your bobbin, and have a general familiarity with how your machine works); rotary cutter with new blade; straight edge ruler); seam ripper; pins; scissors; chocolate treat; paper scraps to label fabrics; neutral piecing thread PRIOR TO CLASS: Read through pattern. Press all FQ's with Best Press or Magic Sizing, as you will be working with all bias edges and these sprays help to decrease stretching of the edges. Practice your 1/4" seam. Cut each FQ as described and shown on page 1, if you have time. It is strongly suggested that you purchase your class supplies at Cotton Patch Shop to ensure you have the proper items.
