April 2015 My Fellow Knights, First and foremost, please join me in congratulating our women’s bowling program on another historic season. Our women’s bowling team captured both the Northeast Conference regular season and tournament championship titles as well as the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference title for the second straight year. Their remarkable season culminated in the third round of the 2015 NCAA Bowling Championships after being selected as the second seed overall. Four of our women’s bowling student-athletes garnered All-American honors including three Second Team All-Americans and one honorable mention. Liat Vizenfeld was also named the Northeast Conference Bowler of the Year for the second consecutive year. In his thirteenth season, head coach Mike LoPresti’s commitment to sustained excellence is the standard we expect at Fairleigh Dickinson and I continue to have the highest expectations for our women’s bowling program under his leadership. I could not be more proud of our dedicated women’s bowling student-athletes and coaching staff on their extraordinary season. The 25th Annual Janney Montgomery Scott Knights Golf Classic will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015. I am very excited to host our outing at a beautiful new venue this year. The Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell, NJ is one of Bergen County’s most historic clubs and courses and I have no doubt that our alumni and friends will enjoy playing it. Special events such as our Annual Knights Golf Classic allow us to gather together beyond the fields of competition and highlight our athletic department’s mission. That mission is to provide an elite student-athlete experience that empowers the young men and women who represent our university with pride to succeed at a high level both on and off the field of play. The support of our donors and the success of signature fundraising events allow our athletic department to move forward and to maintain a growing operating budget to provide the best opportunities for our student-athletes. Together, we have raised over $130,000 towards athletic scholarships through our last three golf outings. This figure represents the commitment of our loyal alumni and friends to elevate the profile of Fairleigh Dickinson University Athletics and the university at large. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Each year, the Northeast Conference hosts its “Money Wars” initiative to raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation. SAAC launched “UKnighted Against Cancer” and raised $2,256.37. This figure is the highest amount our student-athletes have ever raised and the second highest total among all Northeast Conference athletic programs.
As always, thank you for your continued support and I hope you can join us on June 4th! Go Knights!
