Blanco ISD, Blanco Library Team Up for “Visions of the Universe” National Traveling Exhibition Supplements Students’ Education
Seventh grade students Alex Juarez, Jose Lizaola, Aaron Fudge, and Brandal Allie gather information from the Visions of the Universe exhibit. The Blanco Library has teamed up with Blanco ISD to bring local students and community patrons a special traveling exhibition, Visions of the Universe: Four Centuries of Discovery. The Blanco Library was selected as one of only 40 public libraries in the United States to host this particular exhibit. In conjunction with the exhibit, the library has scheduled both public programs and school programs over the last two months. They have all been well received. “It is wonderful that our students have the opportunity to be a part of this program.” said Supt. Dr. Buck Ford. “To bring this type of program to our rural area enhances and extends the educational experiences of our students. We commend and thank the Blanco Library for their collaboration.” Some of the school programs provided by the library have been: grade level field trips, a galaxy mobile workshop, a Galielo reenactment, “space” craft activities, a middle school author visit, guest speakers, and Starry Night art classes.
Librarian Jan Redmond said, “The Blanco Library is appreciative of Blanco ISD’s support and cooperation regarding student participation in our exhibit. We have been very impressed with the students’ knowledge and conduct, and their interaction with their teachers and library staff.” “Part of the library’s mission is to educate, enrich, and create awareness for the Blanco community—and always to focus on our school children. If this exhibit has served to spark an interest in astronomy, career in science, or even encourage a child to go to college, it will have Board of Trustees been worthwhile.” Matt Herden, President Mary Ann Weaver, Vice President Troy Immel, Secretary Kirk Felps Charles Riley Bernie San Miguel Darrel Wagner Superintendent Dr. Buck Ford

The Blanco Panthers are returning to the State Quarterfinals tonight, as they face a re-match with 13-0, state ranked Refugio. Game is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Memorial Stadium in Victoria. The Bobcats of Refugio are well respected. They haven’t lost a game since last year’s 27—7 Quarterfinal loss to Blanco in the Alamodome. The Panthers, who are 12—1, are ready for the challenge. According to head coach Danny Rogers, Refugio is good. “This week we must be more aggressive than ever, as we are facing one of the best teams and historic programs in Texas. Refugio comes into the game with a perfect 13—0 record, and has only lost two games in the past three years.” “They move the ball well offensively both running and throwing. They are led on defense by Dylan Klare, who has already signed to play with Rice University. It will be an exciting week of preparation, and hopefully another Panther victory Friday night.” The Panthers arrived at the Quarterfinal threshold by beating Rogers 32—13 in the Area Finals, and Industrial 34—14 in the Regional Finals last week. Coach Rogers was pleased with the Panthers’ performance. “I am so proud of these young men this year. After losing a great senior class last year, our group has really picked up where we left off a year ago.” “The Rogers football game was very physical . Every snap of the ball was exciting to watch; our team was ready to play from the opening kickoff.”
“We achieved our second goal of the year, which was to play during Thanksgiving. Practice that following week went great, with former players coming by to watch and see what this year’s team has turned out to be.” “The Industrial game was another hard hitting game full of big plays. This time our passing game came up big, with Travis McClinton catching two long touchdown passes. Our team is finding a different way to win each week, and most importantly are playing their hearts out every play.” “Our success this year has really made us proud to live in Blanco. Everyone is so excited to watch us play, because we play the game the way it was meant to be played—hard hitting and emotional. The past five seasons our teams have won 58 games and lost only 10. We have won at least 10 games throughout those five seasons.” “Blanco football is alive and doing well.” ♦
