The Eagles split a pair of matches with win over Carroll and battled No. 7 UW-Whitewater to a 3-1 defeat earlier this week. In match against Warhawks, Savannah Koester became the ninth Eagle to reach 1000 career kills. Despite losing the first set for the fourth straight match, the Edgewood College volleyball team fought their way back to beat Carroll, 3-2 (17-25, 25-23, 25-18, 16-25, 15-10), on the road Tuesday night. It was the Eagles third, five-set victory in their last four matches. Savannah Koester and Mackenzie Doherty combined for 21 kills, and Haley Schwenn and Alex Zapuchlak contributed 42 assists to pioneer an offense that continued the trend of getting better and better as the match wore on. Sarah Uczen captained the defense with 28 digs. After fighting their way to a 2-1 lead, the Eagles let the Pioneers back in it after losing the fourth set. All tied up at 2 sets apiece, the Eagles sprinted out to a 6-1 lead and never trailed in winning a decisive fifth set where they hit .353. Koester posted seven kills and became the ninth Eagle to reach 1000 career kills, but it wasn’t enough in arguably the most competitive match of the season for the Eagles in 3-1 (19-25, 27-25, 26-24, 25-22) defeat to No. 7 UW-Whitewater on Wednesday night. Neither team led by more than four points in a match that featured 39 ties and 23 lead changes.
About the Sabres (as of 10/19) Marian has won two of its last three matches, each in five sets against Alverno and Maranatha Baptist and now owns a 7-13, 2-6 NACC record. The Sabres won at MSOE, 3-1, in their other NACC victory. Freshman Jamie Schrauth (2.25 kills/set) and Amber Baker (7.38 assists/set) lead the offense while Jenna Skroski (3.66 digs/set) anchors the defense.
About the Rams (as of 10/19) North Central (Minn.) has dropped their last 17 matches and last won against Faith Baptist Bible, 3-1, on September 9. The Rams are hitting .047 as a team and are led on offense by Katie Strand (.194 hitting and 1.87 kill/set). Junior Maddie Stocker leads the defense with 4.53 digs/set.
