Bloomsburg University Cross Country/Track & Field Teams
The indoor track and field season got off to an incredible start, as the Huskies seized the opportunity to demonstrate all of the hard work they put in during the preseason. We kicked off the indoor season with an exciting meet at Bucknell, followed the next week by a trip to Houghton College’s brand new indoor track. Below are some highlights from our first two weeks competing on the track and in the field!
Carli Dedics took the indoor season by storm as she notched two PSAC qualifying performances in the 60m and 200m dash events at Bucknell’s season opener. Her efforts on the track earned her two top- five finishes at a highly competitive meet! Dedics proved that she is a triple-threat sprinter as she came back the following week with a conference-qualifying time in the 400m dash - her open quarter debut!
Marcus Gray qualified for the PSAC conference meet for the first time as an individual, and he did so in his first race of the season! Proving that consistent application and hard work pay off, Gray’s time in the 60m was almost two tenths of a second faster than his previous personal best, and his time in the 200m was almost a full second faster than last year’s indoor time! Pictured above is Gray handing off to teammate Isaiah Cooper, who also hit a qualifying mark in the 60m dash at Houghton!
Kirsten O’Malley The returning national qualifier in the outdoor long jump hit the runway with full force at the start of this indoor season. After posting an NCAA provisional mark in the long jump at Bucknell, she set her sights on the triple jump at Houghton... and triple jump she did. After two fouls, O’Malley pulled out a huge personal best of 12.06m, a mark that currently sits her at #4 on the national list!
Matt Hart A breakthrough in the weight throw has been a long time coming for sophomore Matt Hart, who came to college last year with no experience in the weight or hammer throw events. His previous personal best was shattered at Houghton, when Hart eclipsed his former mark by almost two meters! From not qualifying for the conference meet his freshman year, to now ranking at #5 in the PSAC, Hart’s tenacity in learning a new event has paid off in a big way!
