What number is 10 more than 54? 

Emphasize that since it is 10 more, students must determine which digit is in the tens place and increase it by one. This increases the entire number by 10.



Explain the 5 is in the tens place in 54. So to increase this number by 10, the 5 has to be increased to a 6 to make the number 10 more.
