Vocabulary Whole length unit: any repeated unit that is smaller than the object being measured.
Steps 1. Measure an object with whole length units (no gaps or overlaps). 2. Count how many whole length units long the object is.
The bandage is about 3 paperclips long. The paperclips are examples of whole length units because they are smaller than the bandage and are used to measure the length of the bandage.
