Game Notes OPENING FACE-OFF The ninth-ranked Bullets look to continue their fourgame winning streak as they host the Swarthmore College Garnet in a Centennial Conference match-up this afternoon. ALL-TIME SERIES Gettysburg leads Swarthmore 23-1 in the all-time series that started in 1983. After the Garnet won the second meeting in 1985, the two sides did not face off again until the Centennial Conference was formed in 1994. Since then, the Orange and Blue have captured all 22 meetings. LAST MEETING WITH SWARTHMORE Sean Fumai forced overtime with 19 seconds left, then assisted on the game-winning goal by Brendan Morris ’15 42 seconds into the extra session as the Bullets rallied for a thrilling 11-10 victory at Swarthmore last season. Gettysburg trailed 4-0 after the first quarter and erased a 9-6 fourth-quarter deficit, outscoring the Garnet 4-1 over the final 9:58 of regulation. Swarthmore was whistled for a slashing penalty following Fumai’s game-tying goal and the Bullets were awarded possession to start overtime, setting up Morris’ golden goal, which was scored just as the penalty expired. Morris, who assisted on Fumai’s game-tying goal, and Robby Maddux ’15 posted two goals and two assists apiece for the Bullets while Geoff Davis led Gettysburg’s defensive effort with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. The Bullets outshot Swarthmore 41-27, but Cole Fox made 16 saves for the Garnet. Ian Lukaszewicz registered five goals and one assist for Swarthmore. LAST TIME OUT Gettysburg jumped to an 11-1 halftime lead and the Bullets cruised to a 16-2 Centennial Conference victory over Muhlenberg College last Saturday here at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. Senior Mike Distler pumped in a career-high seven points on three goals and four assists for Gettysburg while freshman Blake Gray also notched a hat trick with three goals. Senior Paul Werner contributed two goals and two assists while sophomore Geoff Fulgione won 9-of-17 face-offs. Sophomore Tim Brady made five saves while playing the opening 40 minutes in goal. Gettysburg outshot the Mules 35-19 and finished 4-for-5 in manup opportunities. STINGY DEFENSE Gettysburg enters today’s contest with the top-ranked defense in the Centennial Conference, posting a goals-

against average of 6.50. The Bullets have held their opponents to a single-digit goal total in all but one game, and have yielded only six goals combined over their last two games. Junior long-stick midfielder Chris Palladino has helped lead the way, ranking second in the conference in caused turnovers (22), while sophomore goalie Tim Brady is second among the conference leaders with a 6.95 GAA. BALANCED OFFENSE The Bullets have received a balanced offensive effort thus far, with five different players scoring 10 or more goals. Seniors Jameson Smith and Paul Werner front the Orange and Blue with 15 tallies apiece and are followed closely by senior Mike Distler (14), freshman Blake Gray (13), and freshman Tommy Heller (10). Distler leads the squad with 12 assists. SCOUTING THE GARNET  Swarthmore carries a 6-3 record into today’s contest after winning its last two games, including an 11-9 nonconference victory at Misericordia University this past Wednesday. Sophomore Nathan Relich scored twice in the final 4:30 to break a 9-9 deadlock and finished with four goals and two assists.  Relich leads the Garnet with 15 goals while sophomore Cam Marsh has added 14 goals and a team-leading 16 assists. Classmate Matt Johnson has contributed 11 goals.  Junior Cole Fox has played the majority of the minutes in goal, going 4-2 with an 8.68 goals-against average. Sophomore John Calia has also seen significant action and is 2-1 with a 8.40 GAA. FOUNDERS WEEKEND Gettysburg College’s founder Samuel Simon Schmucker’s belief in the value of an institution dedicated to “advance the cause of liberal education” resulted in the granting of the College’s charter just over 184 years ago, on April 7, 1832. Originally chartered as Pennsylvania College, the College has a rich history of fulfilling the promise to prepare students to be leaders and active citizens in their professions, communities, nation, and the world. Many loyal and generous benefactors have contributed financially to safeguard that promise, and many of our buildings, athletic facilities, and programs bear their names. Gifts of all sizes are important to the continued advancement of our College. Please consider making a gift to the Gettysburg Fund and/or the Orange & Blue Club today in honor of our founding at www.gettysburg.edu/onlinegiving.
