Game Notes FIRST PITCH Gettysburg concludes a four-game homestand this afternoon as it hosts its second Centennial Conference doubleheader in as many days as it takes on the Ursinus College Bears. Today’s twinbill was originally scheduled as the teams’ Centennial Conference doubleheader on March 28 but was rained out. ALL-TIME SERIES Ursinus holds a 39-24-1 lead over Gettysburg in the all-time series that started all the way back in 1896. However, the Bullets have captured the last four meetings. LAST TIME OUT Senior Eric Hungerford fired a six-hit shutout through the raindrops, leading the Bullets to a 3-0 victory over Dickinson this past Tuesday here at Kirchhoff Field. Pitching through a light rain throughout most of the afternoon, Hungerford racked up a career-high 11 strikeouts and was backed by an errorless defensive performance, which included a leaping grab by junior Henry Klimowicz to snag a line drive and end the eighth inning, saving what would have been the tying run at the time. Sophomore Connor Tom finished 2-for-5 with two doubles for Gettysburg while junior Shawn Moffitt went 2-for-4 with a pair of big RBIsingles. Senior Scott Zanghellini finished 2-for-4 with a double. Ursinus jumped to a 2-0 lead after two innings of play, but host Franklin & Marshall scored four times over the final five innings as the Diplomats defeated the Bears 4-2 this past Tuesday in a game that was called with one out in the top of the ninth due to heavy rain. Sophomore Seth Regensburg threw seven innings for Ursinus, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five. Vincent Terry led the Bears at the plate, going 3-for-3. LAST SEASON VERSUS URSINUS Gettysburg outhit Ursinus 36-21 en route to a doubleheader sweep last season in Collegeville. The Bullets won the opener 9-1 behind seven shutout innings from Drew Felsenthal ’14 then posted 20 hits in a tight 9-6 victory in the nightcap. Cory Karagjozi finished 7-for-11 on the day to lead Gettysburg at the plate while Nate Simon ’14 went 5-for-11 with a pair

of doubles and four RBIs. Scott Zanghellini also contributed by going 4-for-8. Chris Yoda ’14 earned the victory on the mound in the nightcap, throwing 5 1/3 innings of relief and scattering three runs. AMONG THE CONFERENCE LEADERS Several Bullets find themselves among the Centennial Conference statistical leaders this season, including senior Eric Hungerford (second, ERA, 0.75; second, strikeouts, 37; t-third, wins, three), sophomore Rich Power (seventh, strikeouts, 28; ninth, ERA, 2.13), freshman Brad DeMartino (10th, ERA, 2.20), sophomore Eric Brown (t-third, wins, three), junior Luke Lawrence (tthird, saves, two), sophomore Connor Tom (t-fifth, doubles, seven), senior Mike Kielbasa (t-second, triples, four; t-ninth, RBIs, 17), and sophomore Will Anderson (t-fourth, home runs, two). SCOUTING THE BEARS Ursinus opened the year 10-2 but had lost four of its last six games heading into its doubleheader with Dickinson yesterday. The Bears have hit .296 as a team and have been led by sophomore Vincent Terry (.389) and freshman Travis Kozak (.387). Junior Chris Jablonski has powered the squad with six home runs and 17 RBIs. Junior Sean Pizik has gone 3-0 with a 1.09 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 24 2/3 innings to lead Ursinus on the mound while senior Alex Manacher (2-2, 2.29 ERA) and junior Vince Piccioni (3-1, 3.74 ERA) have also pitched well. FOUNDERS WEEKEND Gettysburg College’s founder Samuel Simon Schmucker’s belief in the value of an institution dedicated to “advance the cause of liberal education” resulted in the granting of the College’s charter 183 years ago, on April 7, 1832. Originally chartered as Pennsylvania College, the College has a rich history of fulfilling the promise to prepare students to be leaders and active citizens in their professions, communities, nation, and the world. Many loyal and generous benefactors have contributed financially to safeguard that promise, and many of our buildings, athletic facilities, and programs bear their names. Gifts of all sizes are important to the continued advancement of our College. Please consider making a gift to the Gettysburg Fund and/or the Orange & Blue Club today in honor of our founding at www.gettysburg.edu/onlinegiving.
