2013 Records HEADLINES
• • • • • •
Sunday’s match will be the first all northern hemisphere final at the IRB Junior World Championship. It will also be the first ever meeting of England and Wales at the JWC. This is the fourth time England have reached the final of the IRB Junior World Championship, having lost to New Zealand on all previous three occasions in 2011 (33-22), 2009 (44-28) and 2008 (38-3). Wales find themselves in their first Junior World Championship final on Sunday. The highest Wales have finished in this competition was last year when they finished in third place after they beat Argentina 25-17. Wales are the only team left in this year’s competition that have not lost a game. England have lost one match, against South Africa (31-24) in the pool stages. If Wales win on Sunday it will be the first time that they have won five consecutive matches in the IRB Junior World Championships. The most consecutive matches they have won was four between the 2011 and 2012 editions of JWC. Wales and England meet for the first time since their 2013 U20 Six Nations clash. England beat Wales 28-15 to stop their neighbours from winning the Grand Slam and in the process took the Under 20 Six Nations title from Wales’ grasp.
MATCH SUMMARY:

Wales started this competition with an impressive 42-3 win over Samoa and finished top of their pool unbeaten with wins over Scotland (26-21) and Argentina (25-20). Wales scored 93 points and 9 tries in their three pool games, conceding 44 points. Their semi-final opponents, South Africa, were defending champions but Wales managed to win 18-17 after an ASHLEY EVANS try in the last few minutes. England started this year’s competition with a 30-6 win over France. Next came a 31-24 loss to South Africa before an impressive 109-0 win over the USA in their final game in the pool stages. That game ensured their place in the semi-final as a runner-up. A surprising 33-21 win over New Zealand in the semi-final meant England were to progress to the final for the fourth time in six years.
