A. Standing Reports 1. Treasurer’s Report – Current balance reported as of May 7, 2015: $3,829.01. The treasurer provided detailed monthly reports from September 2014 through April 2015. Payment from Flonationals in the amount of $10,000 has been received and will be deposited. 2. Coaches’ Report a. Elementary – The end of year survey that was completed by elementary families revealed the need for a paid head coach. The booster officers have a proposal for Jaison Blystone to fill this position at the rate of $3,000 for the season. Jaison has varsity coaching experience and has been a volunteer coach for Indiana Elementary wrestling for the past three years. The proposal includes: Practices twice per week from November – March (with continued practices for wrestlers advancing to sections and states)
Attending one tournament per weekend throughout the season that he will select (ideally these will be tournaments that the whole team would attend) Coaching any wrestlers at sections and states Identify practice groups and create the practice schedule in coordination with volunteer coaches Developing a curriculum to be used from the novice to the advanced level Communicate information to program coordinators and coaches regarding practice schedules, tournaments, etc. There were some questions and concerns which were raised. Nichole Sipos will follow up with Jaison Blystone prior to the next meeting to address these issues. The proposal has been tabled until the June meeting when more information will be shared. b. High School – Coach Donatelli will be running open mat in May on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:15 pm in the senior high wrestling room. Beginning in June, open mat will move to Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:15 pm. All ages are welcome. It would be advantageous to bring a partner or make plans with friends to attend. West Shamokin will also be hosting an open mat on Wednesdays from 7:00 – 8:30 pm at Elderton. Red Bank will have open mat as well, possibly on Mondays and Thursdays – more details to come. Flood City Tournament is for rising 7th-12th graders. Cost is $8.00 at North Star on Saturday May 16th and 30th. Registration and weigh-ins at 8:30 am, wrestling begins at 9:00 am. Meet at Indiana Senior High School parking lot at 6:45/7:00 am. Watch your email for other upcoming tournaments. High School Tournaments Next Season – the high school will give $900 to the high school wrestling program for tournaments. This will be about $200 short
for the upcoming seasons tournaments. The team will not be attending the Blairsville tournament, but instead will be going to Central Catholic. This tournament will cost $400. The school will pay half ($200), if the boosters could pay the $200 balance. This was unanimously approved. Indiana will host an individual high school tournament, including JV on Saturday, January 9th. There are four school currently confirmed to attend and an additional five with verbal commitments. By September, there need to be a total of sixteen schools committed to attending in order to run the tournament. The boosters have offered to assist in lining up additional participants. 3. Committee reports a. All-American Club – A modified version of Waller’s proposal for next year was presented. For $6,000 (October-March) Waller would hold one practice per week in Indiana, and Indiana wrestlers would be welcome to go to Latrobe to All-American on Fridays and Sundays at no additional charge. Based on feedback from the survey and the need to focus on Indiana as a whole, the decision was made that boosters will not pay Coach Waller to return. It was suggested that if there was enough interest from individual families, that they should work with Coach Waller on a plan to pay him independently.
C. New Business a. Kennywood – Dates for the Kennywood trip were discussed. The trip is set for Monday, July 13th. The cost is $28 per ticket which includes admission to the park, a t-shirt to be worn on the day of the trip and lunch at a pavilion. It should be noted that general admission tickets to Kennywood are now $42. An email will be sent out with information about reserving tickets. b. Mack Park Pool Party – The pool party was a success last year and will be hosted again on a Sunday in August. Nichole Sipos will work on securing a date for the event.
Meeting adjourned: 8:57 PM, Next meeting Thursday, June 11th – location and time TBD.
