25th May 2017 Dear Parent/Carer Year 10 Geography Fieldwork Exam Preparation As you may be aware, a significant part of the Geography GCSE course is made up of the ability to carry out a range of fieldwork techniques in contrasting environments. This will be assessed as part of their final GCSE grade in the Geographical applications paper worth 30%. The fieldtrips will take place during the usual school day. Students will work in small groups and travel to Eastbourne seafront and the Cuckmere River by the school minibus. At both of these sites they will conduct a range of enquiries and fieldwork which will then be analysed once we return to the classroom. The fieldtrips will take place during Monday and Tuesday of the week commencing 3 rd July 2017 and of the week commencing 10th July 2017. The days will be split into two 3 hour sessions being 8.40 to 11.40am or 12noon to 3pm. Students will not attend all sessions and nearer the time students will be advised as to which day and times they will be attending. The school will also send a text message to parents confirming their child’s session. Students should wear normal school uniform but bring suitable footwear to change into for walking. They will need to bring a packed lunch/snacks dependent on which session they attend. However, if they are entitled to a free school meal, a packed lunch can be provided by the school canteen, please indicate on the reply slip below if you wish a packed lunch to be provided. Depending on the weather, sun cream and sun hat or waterproofs are advisable. This is a compulsory trip and your child is expected to attend. Therefore, please complete the reply slip below and return it to me on later than Friday 9th June 2017. There is no contribution request for this trip.
