NEW JERSEY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK WEEK ENDING 3/19/17 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JOE SADLER • Rowan University Junior • First Base • Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel Sadler picks up his first NJAC Player of the Week award after leading Rowan to three wins last week. He batted .478 (11-23) on the week with four doubles, nine RBIs and five runs scored. He opened the week 2-for-5 with two RBIs in a setback to Framingham State. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored in a win over Centenary. He followed up with a 3-for-4 outing in a win over St. Scholastica with a double and four RBIs in the opener of a doubleheader. Sadler finished up the week with a 3-for-3 effort in a loss to St. Norbert. The first baseman recorded 42 putouts and was involved in four double plays. Sadler is batting .294 through 14 games. He is currently tied for third in the NJAC with six doubles and tied for 11th with 11 RBIs this season.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
MATT CURRY • The College of New Jersey Junior • Pitcher • Marlton, NJ/Cherokee Curry earns his first NJAC Pitcher of the Week honor after four relief appearances helped TCNJ to four wins last week. He posted a 1.12 ERA with just one earned run in eight innings pitched, and struck out 10. He earned three of the wins, including victories over No. 17 Webster and No. 24 Suffolk. Curry struck out a week-high five in two innings of relief against Suffolk. He currently leads the NJAC with a scant 0.71 ERA in 12.2 innings pitched.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
MATTHEW STOOTS • Rutgers-Camden Freshman • Third Base • Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton Twp. Stoots earns his second NJAC Rookie of the Week honor of the season after leading RutgersCamden to a 5-2 record last week. He led all Raptor regulars with a .500 average on the week, going 12-for-24 with two doubles, eight RBIs and six runs scored. He opened the week with a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored in a win over Oswego State. He added multi-hit games in wins over Eastern Connecticut, Trinity, Wheaton and No. 24 Suffolk. Stoots also pitched three innings in a loss to Endicott. He currently ranks third in the NJAC with a .459 batting average.
Hernandez earns his second straight and Kean’s fourth NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week honor after picking up a win over Alvernia. He hurled an eight-inning shutout, allowing just four singles with no walks and struck out five. Included in that effort was a streak where he retired 12 straight batters. Hernandez is currently fourth among all NJAC pitchers with a 0.98 ERA in 18.1 innings pitched.
