FROM BEHIND THE CUTTING TABLE

2011

Edition 11 – volume 1

Happy New Year!!! Yes this newsletter is just a little later than usual but we have created a knock-your-socks-off newsletter filled with our most popular classes and events. I know you will be happy to see our most popular School house program is being offered again so if you missed it in the fall you can catch it this session. We are excited about several of our new offerings!!! Check out our Cabin Fever Night or our S.O.S.(Save our Sanity) day. We are also starting an International Mystery quilt tour, every month you will visit a country and make a quilt. We are going to be holding a quilt show in June so we will be looking for quilts to put in the show. Classes will be starting a little later than normal and going a little later into the year than usual. Hope you will come out of hibernation and take a few classes. We also have some great new block of the months so check them out. We will be doing two retreats this year, one in April and one in October, remember space goes fast so make sure you sign up as early as possible. Check out the Cash Crunchers and the Quilting Coupons as we have some new ways to save or win products. I hope you will be as excited as we are for the upcoming events. Starting February 1, we will be open in the evenings until 7:00 pm on Thursdays. On a personal note I am proud to announce that my oldest son has been accepted to the Winnipeg Police Force, we are very happy for him. Of course I also have to tell my new Madison story. At Christmas time I changed my quilt on my bed when she was not there, when she walked into our bedroom the first thing she said was “Grandma you got a new bed” Gord noticed two weeks later. Hard to believe she is only three. I hope you will enjoy our new format for our newsletter and you will find something that will get you out of the cold winter blues. Keep Warm Quilting Stacy

Quilter’s Tips

Iff you are in the habit of chain sewing onto a scrap of quilt fabric when w you end a seam, try “bonus-piecing.” I cut scraps into squares (or half-square triangles) and keep them in a little basket by my machine. As I end a seam, I grab two pieces from the basket and chain-sew a quarter Nancy Adams inch seam instead of stitching onto a scrap. As I start the next seam of my project, I clip off my “bonus piece” and toss it into a box. Bonus piecing takes no extra time or thread and soon I have enough for a care quilt, a scrappy border, etc. With only slightly more planning I painlessly accumulate “geese,” When I get all the right corners done on all my rectangles, I clip and iron the entire boxful. Then I continue with the left corners as I work on my main project. Right now, I am accumulating toes for a bear paw quilt.
