Rosehill Infants and Nursery School

Rosehill Infants and Nursery School NEWSLETTER November/December 2016

Dear Parents and Carers Information has recently been sent home regarding Rosehill Infants and Nursery School leaving the St James Federation. This has now taken place and our school has a new governing body in place and is currently in the process of electing new parent governors. Our Governing Body works very hard in supporting the school and fulfilling their roles as Governors and can be contacted via the Governors email address : [email protected]. Both myself and our new Chair, Mrs D Haynes, will continue to ensure you are kept up to date on the governance of our school. However, should you have any concerns or questions regarding this issue please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Mrs Haynes directly. For our children and staff the forthcoming weeks will be a very exciting time as they rehearse and prepare for their Christmas performances. All family members are welcome to join us in the hall on the dates shown in our calendar for these special performances and I hope as may of you as possible can join us . Our Christmas Fair this year is planned for after school on Thursday 15 December 2016. Donations of cakes/sweets, as always, are greatly appreciated and can be dropped off in the school office on the morning of the Fair. We will be raising funds this year for our library and we hope this event will receive the usual fantastic level of parent/carer support ! I look forward to seeing you there. Mrs Kelk Head teacher GOVERNORS CORNER Welcome to Governors Corner – a new part of the newsletter. I will be updating you once a half term on what Governors have been up to. The last month has been very busy as we have created a new Governing Body for Rosehill. As I write this you are currently voting on which parents will be joining our team. Mazer Hussain has also joined us as an experienced governor who will focus on finance. We still have two co-opted governor vacancies which we are currently advertising on SGOSS and inspiringfutures.com (governor recruitment websites) and at Rolls Royce. I will also be sending a letter to local Businesses. Since the 1st November, Governors have:  Completed all statutory paperwork  Updated the governor section on the website  Updated our skills matrix to ensure we bring in the right people  Completed a monitoring visit  Held two meetings – Full Governing Body and Resources Committee  Met with our Senior School Improvement Officer , Maxine Bull  Updated our school vision which will be published on the website before Christmas  Held a coffee morning to meet parents and carers It’s a very exciting time to have joined Rosehill. We are working very hard to ensure we become an outstanding governing body and I look forward to keeping you all updated on what we have been up to. Kind regards Debbie Haynes Chair of Governing Body PARKING OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL Unfortunately, we continue to have a number of parents/carers that are parking their cars outside the school gates during the school run. In some instances cars are being parked across the blue gates and left whilst the driver attends meetings at school. Not only does this cause safety issues for our children and parents that are walking to school it also restricts the access to our school premises for emergency vehicles if there was ever a need. We’d like to remind all drivers of the parking restrictions that are in place outside our school to ensure the safety of our children and ask you to park responsibly . t: 01332 229229 EMAIL— [email protected]

Attendance and Punctuality Due to low attendance levels and poor punctuality our school continues to be closely monitored by the Education Welfare Service Team based at Derby City Council. Continued lateness and absence can have an impact on your child’s learning as demonstrated below: If your child’s attendance is …….

Which means ... Good Progress! Your child has a flying start and the best chance of success! Worrying Progress!! Your child will find it harder to make progress and may fall behind. Concerning! Your child will find it hard to catch up and the gap between them and their friends will widen!

Each child’s attendance is reviewed on regular basis and where there are patterns of low attendance and/or poor timekeeping parents/carers will be invited to a meeting with our Head Teacher and School Attendance Officer to discuss the situation and identify any support that the school can give to address the issue. Unfortunately, in some cases it may also be necessary for the Education Welfare Officer to become involved where there are continued levels of unauthorised absence and/or poor timekeeping and this may ultimately result in parents/carers being issued with a penalty notice. Please ensure that you report the first day of your child’s absence to the school office (tel no 229229). Members of staff are always on hand in the playground to support parents in the morning with school drop off. Children should also be collected on time at the end of each school day. Remember : our Reception classroom doors open at 8.50 am and Year 1 and 2 children are collected from the playground at 8.55 am. Children arriving after 9.00 am will be marked as late.

SEND Award Mrs Kavanagh, our Deputy Head and SENCO, is currently reviewing our SEND policies as part of the work towards our school achieving the SEND Award. Copies of our latest policies can be found on our website and are also available from our School Office. If you would like any further information or to discuss SEND issues please contact Mrs Kavanagh to arrange an appointment.
