Edgewood College suffered through a rough weekend at Carol Stream, Ill. dropping three games to three different opponents, which extended their current losing streak to four consecutive game. In Friday’s game, the Eagles scored all their runs in the ninth inning in a 7-3 loss to Carroll University. Jonathan Roehler, Andrew Lauritzen and Garret Bogucki each had two hits with Tim Nunn recording a pair of RBIs. On Saturday, the Eagles lost 9-3 to both Concordia College (Moorhead) and Wheaton College (Ill.). Against the Cobbers, Jeff Tucker went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the hitting attack. Concordia scored five runs in the first five innings to take a 5-1 lead. In the second game against the host Thunder, Edgewood College trailed 2-1 after six innings, before Wheaton posted five runs in the seventh inning to pull away. Danny Appino and Lauritzen accounted for four of the Eagles’ five hits, with two singles apiece. Callen Gavic had a double for the Eagles’ other hit. Edgewood College was scheduled to open the NACC season on Saturday with a doubleheader against Rockford University at Loves Park, Ill.
About the Stars Dominican University, chosen for eighth in the NACC preseason poll, currently holds a 6-10 record. The Stars have dropped their last four games including a doubleheader to Cornell (Iowa) on March 26. Freshman Mike Piotrowski has been a one-man wrecking crew for the Stars, hitting .443 with four doubles and a pair of home runs already this season. Sophomore Colin Janison has two wins in five starts for Dominican University and has struck out a team-high 22 opposing batters.
