Lee’s score was set up by Henry Simon who picked off a Bucs pass near midfield and started a counter-attack. While Simon worked down the middle of the field Lee ran the right side lane. Simon pass into the box was met with a one-time strike from Lee, sho blasted the shot over the goalkeeper’s left shoulder. The Eagles had multiple chances to add to their lead, but came away empty each time. Zander Rothering just missed finishing a cross in the 20th minute, and Nicholas Bilodeau had a chance off a rebound in the 31st minute, but fired high. In the second half Simon came flying in with diving header off a Lee corner kick, but his effort clanged off the crossbar. Ultimately, it didn’t matter as the Eagles defense limited Beloit College to just one shot in the second half, and freshman goalkeeper Dan Dombrowski turned away all three shots on goal. The Eagles have now won their season opener twice in three seasons under head coach Derek Helmer.

About the Comets Olivet College was also an opening day winner, defeating Augustana College (Ill.) 2-0 in a Saturday home game. David Magallon opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. In the second half, Magallon set up teammate Joshua Rosendale for a two-goal advantage. Goalkeeper Brendan Morse had to make just one save to earn the win as the Comets limited the Vikings to just two shots. Olivet was picked to finish seventh in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association in the preseason coaches poll. The Comets were 3-15-2 overall last season. First All-Time Meeting
