Edgewood College opened their week with a 9-1 victory at Wheaton College on Wednesday night, in a rescheduled game. The Eagles opened up a 7-0 lead after four innings and cruised to victory. Danny Appino went 2-for-3 while Alex Fowler was 2-for-4. Nick Lehner had two runs batted in. Mitch Egan pitched a perfect fifth inning and earned his first career victory in relief. The Eagles had a rough go of it last weekend, dropping games to Northland College and Bethel University in Carol Stream, Ill. The Eagles scored the first run of the game against Northland, but fell behind 9-2 through six innings, on their way to a 10-6 setback. The Eagles couldn’t take advantage of 10 walks issued by Northland pitchers. Fowler had two hits while Nick Cheaney had an EBI double. Blake Bieri struck out six hitters in 4.1 innings of work. In the second game last Saturday, Edgewood College battled from behind twice to tie the game at 3-3 and again at 5-5, but it all came undone in a disastrous nine-run seventh inning by Bethel University. Appino, Jonathan Roehler and Tim Nunn each had two hits against the Royals. Appino had a double and Nunn stroked an RBI triple. Adam Eck started for the Eagles and struck out five batters, while Mason Maziarka suffered the loss.
