Cat 6

Considerations:

This will be the students’ first exposure to tally charts. Graphing is not covered in Kindergarten. This lesson represents a skill necessary for mastery of 1.MD.4. The class must be surveyed for each graph. Explain to students that vertical lines are used to count the first 4 numbers, while a horizontal/ diagonal line strikes through the first 4 lines, indicating a group of 5.

Steps:

Fish 4

Tally marks: =1 =5

1. 2. 3. 4.

Survey information. Represent each person/vote with a tally mark. Count the amount of votes in each category. Record the total in the box.

Application of MPs: MP1:

MP2: How can you relate this to real life? MP6: What new vocabulary words did you learn today?
