Game Notes OPENING FACE-OFF Looking to continue its best start in five years, No. 17 Gettysburg takes on its second nationally-ranked opponent of the season as it hosts No. 3 Lynchburg College in a non-conference game. Today’s game was originally scheduled for yesterday but was pushed back one day due to heavy snowfall in the area on Thursday. ALL-TIME SERIES Today’s game marks the third meeting between the two schools. Gettysburg claimed the inaugural meeting, 12-11, two years ago here at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium before the Hornets claimed a 12-6 decision in Lynchburg a year ago. LAST SEASON VERSUS LYNCHBURG Gettysburg scored the game’s first two goals, but Lynchburg answered with a 12-0 run spanning all four quarters en route to the Hornets’ 12-6 victory last season. The Bullets scored four times in the final six minutes, with three coming in the last 1:32, to set the final score. Todd Galvin and Campbell Armstrong scored two goals apiece for Lynchburg, which had seven different players find the back of the net. Aaron Murphy added one goal and three assists while Andrew Fawkes made three 12 saves and allowed only three goals over 57:47 of action. Robby Maddux scored two goals for Gettysburg while Martin Manilla ’14 added one goal and three assists. LAST TIME OUT Senior Robby Maddux scored a career-high seven goals and handed out one assist, and the Bullets piled up 14 second-half goals in an 18-7 non-conference win at Messiah College this past Wednesday. Maddux’ seven goals were two shy of the school record and the most by a Bullet since Brooke Farrell ’99 also scored seven in a 22-1 victory at Swarthmore College on April 24, 1999. All seven of his goals were scored over a 14:38 stretch over the middle two quarters, including four in a row at one point and six in an explosive third quarter in which Gettysburg outscored the Falcons 10-0. All seven of Maddux’ goals were even-strength. Sophomore Sean Fumai added two goals and four assists while senior Brendan Morris contributed two goals and three assists. Junior Jameson Smith added two goals and one assist while freshman Tim Brady made five saves over the opening 52 minutes in goal.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Junior midfielder Jameson Smith and freshman goalie Tim Brady swept the Centennial Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards for their efforts in Gettysburg’s 2-0 start, which included a 12-6 win at seventh-ranked Salisbury last Saturday. Smith posted seven goals and one assist over the two games, scoring a career-high-tying four goals in the team’s 14-4 season-opening victory over Goucher and before notching three tallies at Salisbury. Brady started his career with a pair of impressive performances, making nine saves and allowing just four goals over 57 minutes versus Goucher before turning aside 14 shots at Salisbury, helping Gettysburg to its first win over the Sea Gulls since 2009. Brady was also honored as the Lacrosse Magazine Division III Player of the Week and the USILA Division III South Region Defensive Player of the Week. FIROUZAN REACHES MILESTONE Senior midfielder Bijan Firouzan reached 100 career points when he scored his fourth and final goal in Gettysburg’s season-opening victory over Goucher. He currently has 104 points on 59 goals and 45 assists. GETTYSBURG-LYNCHBURG CONNECTIONS A pair of coaches in today’s game have strong ties to their opponent. Lynchburg head coach Steve Koudelka is a 1993 graduate of Gettysburg and was a standout goalie for the Bullets. A two-time All-American, he was also an assistant coach at Gettysburg for three seasons and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Athletic Honor in 2006. In addition, Lynchburg assistant coach Chris Perzinski served as an assistant at Gettysburg in 2013 before returning to his alma mater for his second coaching stint with the Hornets last season. SCOUTING THE HORNETS  Lynchburg has jumped to a 2-0 start after notching a pair of home victories over nationally-ranked opponents. The Hornets topped Salisbury 12-7 in their season opener before rallying from a 9-3 deficit to beat Cabrini 10-9.  The Hornets, who reached the NCAA second round last season, have been led by junior Aaron Murphy, who has scored 10 points on eight goals and two assists. Junior Austin Stewart has added six goals while classmate Bobby Distler has won 74.4% (32-for-43) of his face-offs.
