Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections

STUDENTS PAGE February 5-7, 2012 Purity That Glorifies God—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a parent goes first): When it is your turn, say: God created you to be my parents. One thing that I’m glad you’ve achieved for God is . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:

2. Read Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Truth • The highest motivation for purity should be to glorify God. Untruth • You really can’t expect normal teenagers to save sex for marriage. • If you could prevent diseases and pregnancies, sex outside marriage would be fine. • Your private life does not matter as long as you go to church.

3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.

4. Think It Through: Say: Imagine fixing a nice, candlelit dinner for a very special person in your life. Ask: What would you say or do if the rest of family disturbed your meal and started snacking on some of the things you had made for the dinner? Discuss responses. Emphasize that the one giving the dinner would probably do something to stop the intrusion. Point out that the dinner had been designed for one special person, so no one else would have a right to it. Say: As we protect our purity, we should keep our future spouses in mind. The special gift is designed for that person and no one else. Remind family members that they also must keep God in mind since He is glorified by our purity. 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this activity. 6. Pray: A parent will lead today’s prayer. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Bless your parents by sharing or reminding them that you have decided to follow God’s plan by saving sex until marriage. Ask them to pray for you daily as you live out this decision.
